Randomness on a Sunday

By Amber Woods on Friday, June 22, 2012

Some times you just have to be random.   Today when I started my morning run, it was six thirty and a little chilly.    So I wore my favorite grey leggings.   At least they were my favorite, until two days ago. While in my painting frenzy I leaned against something tan, and got paint …

Life of a Degenerate Gambler

Death. Taxes. Frankel.

By Amber Woods on Wednesday, June 20, 2012

Today was a special day in Brittan.    Was it special because the sun came out after the wettest Spring Brittan has ever seen?   Well yes. Any day the pasty, pasty Brits see the sun shine is a special day.   Today was a special day because a Thoroughbred race horse named Frankel won his eleventh …

Painting…

By Amber Woods on Tuesday, June 19, 2012

Get a painting contractor Charlottesville, they said. It’ll be easier, they said. You’ll save a lot of time, they said. Did I listen? Of course not! I decided to do all the painting myself and it’s taken a lot longer than I thought it would. Last night I slept in a bed full of sawdust. …

Redneck Mom and me… BFF’s!

By Amber Woods on Monday, June 18, 2012

I used to be entertained most days by the crackheads that lived in the two houses across the street from me and next to me. Unfortunately, before I had a chance to name any of them, they were all evicted. I guess meth just isn’t selling like it used to be. That was years ago. …

Honey this and Sweetie that

By Amber Woods on Sunday, June 17, 2012

Sometimes being treated like a girl is a real insult. I used to lift weights. I used to lift heavy things. I used to not be such a wuss. That was all before I was disabled. I’m eight percent permanently disabled from my degenerative disks in my back. Some days it is literally a pain …

Hike. Jeep. Repeat. Big Bear's only outdoor adventure guide
Amber Woods
Amber Woods

Hi y’all! I’m Amber, Big Bear Lake’s local Hungry Mountaineer hiking nature guide. I grew up here in the San Bernardino National Forest. I have basically been out exploring hiking trails and enjoying the wilderness as long as I could walk. I have had some amazing adventures out here in the gorgeous San Bernardino Mountains over the years. As a alpine adventure enabler who is passionate about the wilderness, I love to share my knowledge of our vast trail system with vacationers who also love the great outdoors. Looking to book a hiking excursion? Email me at Hungrymountaineer@gmail.com for the best locals-only hikes available in this mountain wilderness. I am passionate about finding my balance in life – healthy living, great food, outdoor fitness, traveling adventures, working hard and my unbridled love for racehorses and naturally, gambling. When I’m not exploring news trails or betting on the ponies you can find me either coming up with healthy new recipes or blogging about the adventures my trail pup and I had in the wilderness this week. I have spent most of my life exploring what these mountains have to offer and locals would call me an expert and a backcountry Snack Sherpa. I know the best hiking and biking trails in these mountains and I have chronicled most of my hikes and adventures on this website. Please get in touch is you have any questions.
