California Dreaming, on Such a Winters Day

By Amber Woods on Monday, January 21, 2013

I feel so blessed on days like today.I live an hour from the beach in Southern California in a mountain town. Today I woke up a few miles from the beach and did a four-mile run on the soft sand with my best friend. I am so lucky to live in California. It feels like …

Pen Pals

By Amber Woods on Sunday, January 20, 2013

When I was a kid I had pen pals.    I didn’t have a typical childhood with video games and tons of toys and watching lots of T.V.     I spent my free time reading books and playing outside in the mud with my brothers. I loved to write and draw and writing letters to …

Club Escort

By Amber Woods on Wednesday, January 16, 2013

from 2000 to 2005 I drove a cherry red Ford Escort. It was my first new car. Okay it wasn’t brand new, but it had just over 10,000 miles on it and it was a real steal as it was a vehicle with a salvage title and I paid next to nothing for it. When …

Chill

By Amber Woods on Monday, January 14, 2013

It is 17 degrees out and windy.   And my heat is still not working.    I usually love winter but this winter has been intense with not having a heater working for most of it and it has been any where from five degrees to twenty five degrees all week. My cats hate me. They …

All the Pretty Horses

By Amber Woods on Saturday, January 12, 2013

Sometimes peoples stupidity just amazes me.  Today I had to explain to a man the difference between a sheep and a goat.   Because he thought they were the same animal.   Than the same man was telling me how he’s pretty sure that a cat and a dog have been bred to make a new …

Hike. Jeep. Repeat. Big Bear's only outdoor adventure guide
Amber Woods
Amber Woods

Hi y’all! I’m Amber, Big Bear Lake’s local Hungry Mountaineer hiking nature guide. I grew up here in the San Bernardino National Forest. I have basically been out exploring hiking trails and enjoying the wilderness as long as I could walk. I have had some amazing adventures out here in the gorgeous San Bernardino Mountains over the years. As a alpine adventure enabler who is passionate about the wilderness, I love to share my knowledge of our vast trail system with vacationers who also love the great outdoors. Looking to book a hiking excursion? Email me at Hungrymountaineer@gmail.com for the best locals-only hikes available in this mountain wilderness. I am passionate about finding my balance in life – healthy living, great food, outdoor fitness, traveling adventures, working hard and my unbridled love for racehorses and naturally, gambling. When I’m not exploring news trails or betting on the ponies you can find me either coming up with healthy new recipes or blogging about the adventures my trail pup and I had in the wilderness this week. I have spent most of my life exploring what these mountains have to offer and locals would call me an expert and a backcountry Snack Sherpa. I know the best hiking and biking trails in these mountains and I have chronicled most of my hikes and adventures on this website. Please get in touch is you have any questions.
