Winter Beach Fog Happiness Coma

By Amber Wood on Monday, March 18, 2013

I drove over a thousand miles in the last week.In that time I did manage to run eight milesAnd I worked four eight hour shiftsAnd that is why I had no time to blog. Between the deserts of Vegas, the craggy snowy peaks of Red Rocks Canyon and the green and lush with springs early flowers Santa Monica Mountains leading …

On a Forest Morning

By Amber Wood on Wednesday, March 13, 2013

There is a dirt road that I like to run down in the winter months.   It hugs the cliffs and muddy edges of the National Forest.   Hawks fly through the treetops and deer scamper about in the Manzanita bushes.    I rarely see these creatures, all I see for the most part is the …

We Smell Like Rainbows and Unicorns

By Amber Wood on Sunday, March 10, 2013

Today for the second time in my thirty two years I ran 13.1 half marathon style. This time I trained a lot and although I did not feel as ready as I would have liked to be, I felt like I could accomplish my goal time of three hours. The race day did not start …

Snow Monsters

By Amber Wood on Thursday, March 7, 2013

I can tell in my sleep if it’s snowing outside.     I may not have amazing Snow ESP but when it snows people have to chain up their cars and trucks and when they drive by my house with tire chains at four A.M. I can hear them.   Even in a deep sleep I can …

Warm Willies and More

By Amber Wood on Monday, March 4, 2013

I’m so glad he warned me in advance.    I tried to find a plumber to come in and fix my broken pipe last week.    He seemed like a real nice guy. We talked about all the drama unfolding with Chris Dorner in our little mountain time. He fixed my frozen and burst pipe, I …

About Me
Amber Woodyard
Amber Woodyard

Hi y’all! I’m Amber, Big Bear’s local Hungry Mountaineer hiking nature guide. I grew up here in the San Bernardino National Forest and I have basically been out exploring hiking trails and enjoying the wilderness as long as I could walk. I have had some amazing adventures out here in the gorgeous San Bernardino Mountains over the years. As a hiking guide who is passionate about the wilderness, I love to share my knowledge of our vast trail system with vacationers who also love the great outdoors. Looking to book a hiking excursion? Email me at [email protected] for the best locals-only hikes available in this mountain wilderness. I am passionate about finding my balance in life – healthy living, great food, outdoor fitness, traveling adventures, working hard and my unbridled love for racehorses and naturally, gambling. When I’m not exploring news trails or betting on the ponies you can find me either coming up with healthy new recipes or blogging about the adventures my trail pup and I had in the wilderness this week. I have spent most of my life exploring what these mountains have to offer and locals would call me an expert. I know the best hiking and biking trails in these mountains and I have chronicled most of my hikes and adventures in my blog on this website. Please get in touch is you have any questions.
