The Carneval Ball; Lobster and Crying Drunk Princesses

By Amber Woods on Monday, October 7, 2013

Our big reason to go to Venice was to attend a Carneval Ball. The day of the ball we tried not to do anything to crazy, we wanted to be rested for our big night out on the town, in Venice Italy. I was sharing a room at our hotel with two girls that I …

Bacon Cheddar Potato Skin Casserole

By Amber Woods on Saturday, October 5, 2013

I’m back from my week long vacation.        The great thing about vacation is relaxing, having cocktails around the pool and having some beers around a late night fire pit as a million stars shine above you.   The down fall to vacation?   Well that would be going for a five mile run through poison oak …

A Afternoon in Venice, Cicchetti, Wine and Gelato

By Amber Woods on Saturday, October 5, 2013

We had to be at the Stansted airport before dawn for our flight to Venice. It was a cheap Ryanair flight. I think it came out to be about thirty American dollars. We packed up the cars in the brisk cold of England in February and made the drive out to the countryside and the little …

Chicken and chili flautas with feta pepper dipping sauce

By Amber Woods on Thursday, October 3, 2013

I just came back from a week long vacation which ended with three days camping, fishing, and yes drinking way to much beer in the Sierras.     A good time was had with some great friends who I have not hung out with in way to long.     The fishing was not the best …

Grapefruit Ginger Juice

By Amber Woods on Tuesday, October 1, 2013

This was the last Crab Creek hike of the season.    My favorite secluded mountain watering hole has a very short season. Fall starts early at the creek and the second week in August brings cool mountain breezes and the water temperature dips over night.    We made one more trip down to Crab Creek …

Hike. Jeep. Repeat. Big Bear's only outdoor adventure guide
Amber Woods
Amber Woods

Hi y’all! I’m Amber, Big Bear Lake’s local Hungry Mountaineer hiking nature guide. I grew up here in the San Bernardino National Forest. I have basically been out exploring hiking trails and enjoying the wilderness as long as I could walk. I have had some amazing adventures out here in the gorgeous San Bernardino Mountains over the years. As a alpine adventure enabler who is passionate about the wilderness, I love to share my knowledge of our vast trail system with vacationers who also love the great outdoors. Looking to book a hiking excursion? Email me at Hungrymountaineer@gmail.com for the best locals-only hikes available in this mountain wilderness. I am passionate about finding my balance in life – healthy living, great food, outdoor fitness, traveling adventures, working hard and my unbridled love for racehorses and naturally, gambling. When I’m not exploring news trails or betting on the ponies you can find me either coming up with healthy new recipes or blogging about the adventures my trail pup and I had in the wilderness this week. I have spent most of my life exploring what these mountains have to offer and locals would call me an expert and a backcountry Snack Sherpa. I know the best hiking and biking trails in these mountains and I have chronicled most of my hikes and adventures on this website. Please get in touch is you have any questions.
