Home Made Cran Apple Spinach Juice; What I drink now instead of Sparks

By Amber Woods on Monday, November 18, 2013

When I was young I did some vile things to my body.   No I never smoked a cigarette in my life or did any drugs of any kind but the things I ingested in my body, oh lord, the me of the year 2013 cringes when I think of the horrible GMO filled things that …

In December of 1952 a air force plane, a DC 3 left Omaha Nebraska headed towards March Air Force Base in Riverside, California. By the time the plane reached Southern California there was a brutal snow storm in the area.    This plane would never reach March AFB and instead crash landed some where in the …

O Mexico; Travels South of the Border and a Recipe for Carnitas Enchiladas

When I was a teenager I was not a rebel. I was in Choir and drama. I loved horse racing and since we lived two hours from the closest race track and my parents worked full time I was stuck watching it on T.V. Between these things and school, I had no time to revolt.  Until …

What the Hell is Mutton Bustin? A Day Spent in Brawley

By Amber Woods on Friday, November 15, 2013

I feel like we are in the wild, wild west, yet some how I am still technically in Southern California just a few hours south of Los Angeles. We drove two hours south east of the sprawling suburbia and consumerism that engulfs Southern California. No joke; I have not seen a Target or a Bed …

It’s day ten week two of not having a working computer.     I think I am going to make it.     I can see the end in sight.    On Saturday I will be buying a new lap top and it will be no more blogging on my Iphone or at the library. …

Hike. Jeep. Repeat. Big Bear's only outdoor adventure guide
Amber Woods
Amber Woods

Hi y’all! I’m Amber, Big Bear Lake’s local Hungry Mountaineer hiking nature guide. I grew up here in the San Bernardino National Forest. I have basically been out exploring hiking trails and enjoying the wilderness as long as I could walk. I have had some amazing adventures out here in the gorgeous San Bernardino Mountains over the years. As a alpine adventure enabler who is passionate about the wilderness, I love to share my knowledge of our vast trail system with vacationers who also love the great outdoors. Looking to book a hiking excursion? Email me at Hungrymountaineer@gmail.com for the best locals-only hikes available in this mountain wilderness. I am passionate about finding my balance in life – healthy living, great food, outdoor fitness, traveling adventures, working hard and my unbridled love for racehorses and naturally, gambling. When I’m not exploring news trails or betting on the ponies you can find me either coming up with healthy new recipes or blogging about the adventures my trail pup and I had in the wilderness this week. I have spent most of my life exploring what these mountains have to offer and locals would call me an expert and a backcountry Snack Sherpa. I know the best hiking and biking trails in these mountains and I have chronicled most of my hikes and adventures on this website. Please get in touch is you have any questions.
