Carrot Coconut Date Protein Bars

By Amber Woods on Tuesday, May 5, 2015

It felt like a normal run of the mill Thursday. So I decided to take Carly for a walk. In a blizzard. Five miles down a deserted dirt road I had never explored before. Obviously Mary would join me on this adventure with her adorable Lhasa Apso who hates the snow, Charlie. Charlie has no idea her …

Fennel, Goat Cheese and Pesto Puff Pastry Pizza

By Amber Woods on Thursday, April 30, 2015

I love, love, love my new Merrell Salada boots! These hiking boots are completely comfortable! To be fair, the longest hike I have done in them is a fifteen miler to this point (and in deep snow at that) but they made my feet happy the whole time. I wore them last week hiking up …

Easy Spicy Pickled Veggies

By Amber Woods on Tuesday, April 28, 2015

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. Every one needs a friend like Mary. I’ve got a lot of friends who are foodies and we share recipes all the time but Mary’s concoctions are constantly blowing me out of the park! She is the queen of pickling things. I honestly would be scared …

Love Life Outside The Mountains are Calling

Amber and the Fashion Police; a night out on the town in Big Bear

By Amber Woods on Saturday, April 25, 2015

I’m not the kind of girl who wears heels pretty much ever. I am the kind of girl who wears cowboy boots though. How many pairs of cowboy boots do I own? Please just don’t ask; the answer is shameful. And yes, I do want more… Sites like Footwear 4 Workers just make it so …

This Small Town Life; Perfection

By Amber Woods on Friday, April 24, 2015

Yesterday as I began to get out of the car with the pup to go for a hike I watched a bob cat sprint across the highway.        The day before that as I drove our winding mountain roads I watched as two does were grazing on the side of the highway …

About Me
Amber Wood
Amber Wood

Hi y’all! I’m Amber, Big Bear’s local Hungry Mountaineer hiking nature guide. I grew up here in the San Bernardino National Forest and I have basically been out exploring hiking trails and enjoying the wilderness as long as I could walk. I have had some amazing adventures out here in the gorgeous San Bernardino Mountains over the years. As a hiking guide who is passionate about the wilderness, I love to share my knowledge of our vast trail system with vacationers who also love the great outdoors. Looking to book a hiking excursion? Email me at Hungrymountaineer@gmail.com for the best locals-only hikes available in this mountain wilderness. I am passionate about finding my balance in life – healthy living, great food, outdoor fitness, traveling adventures, working hard and my unbridled love for racehorses and naturally, gambling. When I’m not exploring news trails or betting on the ponies you can find me either coming up with healthy new recipes or blogging about the adventures my trail pup and I had in the wilderness this week. I have spent most of my life exploring what these mountains have to offer and locals would call me an expert. I know the best hiking and biking trails in these mountains and I have chronicled most of my hikes and adventures in my blog on this website. Please get in touch is you have any questions.
