The Brains or the Balls

By Amber Woods on Tuesday, November 22, 2016

Everyone needs that person to grow old with, even if it means that special someone is reminding you that you love goat’s balls. Growing old together means being there in the long run in good times and in bad. It means sticking together for the long haul and being there for each other for the …

She’s My Bitch and You Can’t Have Her

By Amber Woods on Saturday, November 19, 2016

I’m happy to say I did not have to defend Carly’s honor today all though shortly after dawn this morning I truly wondered if this silly dog was about to be coyote chow. We were hiking down towards Shadow Lake out of Agnew Meadows at a rather brisk rate as we had a very full …

Doe a Deer, 500 Deer

By Amber Woods on Friday, November 18, 2016

I never dreamed I would complain about to many deer but within the first ten minutes of getting out of the car at Big Pine Creek I had already seen two does on two separate occasions. And a snake; a big ass snake. It may not have been a rattler but I don’t care. I …

A Day on the Trail

By Amber Woods on Friday, November 18, 2016

Mornings in the eastern sierras like this one are a great stress reliever. When I feel like the realities of life (And living a life where Donald Trump, a reality t.v. star will be president; just putting that into words still feels like science fiction!) are starting to get to me, hiking fifteen miles through …

Another Heavenly Fall Day

By Amber Woods on Thursday, November 17, 2016

Fall leaves crunch under my toes and every where all I see reds, oranges and yellows. I live in the mountains above the valley of San Bernardino, California and every day I feel blessed to be here. In the valley below you would not even know that it’s fall. It’s over a …

About Me
Amber Wood
Amber Wood

Hi y’all! I’m Amber, Big Bear’s local Hungry Mountaineer hiking nature guide. I grew up here in the San Bernardino National Forest and I have basically been out exploring hiking trails and enjoying the wilderness as long as I could walk. I have had some amazing adventures out here in the gorgeous San Bernardino Mountains over the years. As a hiking guide who is passionate about the wilderness, I love to share my knowledge of our vast trail system with vacationers who also love the great outdoors. Looking to book a hiking excursion? Email me at Hungrymountaineer@gmail.com for the best locals-only hikes available in this mountain wilderness. I am passionate about finding my balance in life – healthy living, great food, outdoor fitness, traveling adventures, working hard and my unbridled love for racehorses and naturally, gambling. When I’m not exploring news trails or betting on the ponies you can find me either coming up with healthy new recipes or blogging about the adventures my trail pup and I had in the wilderness this week. I have spent most of my life exploring what these mountains have to offer and locals would call me an expert. I know the best hiking and biking trails in these mountains and I have chronicled most of my hikes and adventures in my blog on this website. Please get in touch is you have any questions.
