How to Spruce up an Old RV on a Budget

By Amber Woods on Thursday, September 7, 2017

The first time we put gas in our new but actually old RV the pump switched off at one hundred dollars. Well this was one of many new experiences into the RV world. Did you know most credit card companies will only let you buy one hundred dollars worth of gas at a gas station? …

Spicy and Sweet Sriracha Pork Ribs

By Amber Woods on Monday, September 4, 2017

If there is anything that could possibly make pork anymore tasty than it has to be the combination of Sriracha Sauce and pork. I have been making Srircha Bacon Jerky for a few years now and it is so delicious my boyfriend and I could literally eat the whole batch in one setting. We don’t though, …

Kamp Ground of America My Ass

By Amber Woods on Friday, September 1, 2017

“Who wants to go camping in Pomona?” I must really love this man of mine because he convinced me to camp in the gangs and smog capital of sunny east Los Angeles in the hottest weekend in September, Labor Day weekend, 2017. Yes as we made our way out of the rainy thunderstorm mountains where …

Repairing an RV Dash, The Easy Way!

By Amber Woods on Wednesday, August 30, 2017

As you all know, my RV is getting on in years. It’s not quite as fast, quiet, or reliable as it once was but I love it anyway! Plus, it’s cheaper to get RV Repair Services when it’s having issues than buying a whole new one! However, there are certain things that I think I …

Baked Meyer Lemon Zucchini Donuts

By Amber Woods on Sunday, August 27, 2017

Today I biked twenty miles on a Tuesday. I am so blessed that I can commit a few hours on some days to a amazing mountain bike ride on a gorgeous spring day. I’m also blessed that although I hurt my ankle the damages were minimal and I was able to enjoy this lakeside view …

Hike. Jeep. Repeat. Big Bear's only outdoor adventure guide
Amber Woods
Amber Woods

Hi y’all! I’m Amber, Big Bear Lake’s local Hungry Mountaineer hiking nature guide. I grew up here in the San Bernardino National Forest. I have basically been out exploring hiking trails and enjoying the wilderness as long as I could walk. I have had some amazing adventures out here in the gorgeous San Bernardino Mountains over the years. As a alpine adventure enabler who is passionate about the wilderness, I love to share my knowledge of our vast trail system with vacationers who also love the great outdoors. Looking to book a hiking excursion? Email me at Hungrymountaineer@gmail.com for the best locals-only hikes available in this mountain wilderness. I am passionate about finding my balance in life – healthy living, great food, outdoor fitness, traveling adventures, working hard and my unbridled love for racehorses and naturally, gambling. When I’m not exploring news trails or betting on the ponies you can find me either coming up with healthy new recipes or blogging about the adventures my trail pup and I had in the wilderness this week. I have spent most of my life exploring what these mountains have to offer and locals would call me an expert and a backcountry Snack Sherpa. I know the best hiking and biking trails in these mountains and I have chronicled most of my hikes and adventures on this website. Please get in touch is you have any questions.
