A Stupid Beautiful Morning @Snow Forest

By Amber Woods on Monday, February 27, 2017

Today was a fantastic gorgeous fall day to hit the trails of Big Bear Lake. We had a fantastic morning indulging in a few of my true loves; hiking with the pups, a little trail running and some outdoor fitness. Sometimes while living in a ski resort town you find yourself using words like “stupid beautiful” Today …

To Bee or Not To Bee (A Eastern Sierras Autumn Adventure)

By Amber Woods on Friday, February 24, 2017

This weekend I lucked out and was blessed with a big win, over five hundred dollars and it was just in time to pay for my eastern sierras camping, hiking, fall colors vacation! Some folks love to gamble in casinos amid the slot machines, the craps tables, and the blackjack dealer, others like to play …

Marmot Mornings; a Journey to White Mountain

By Amber Woods on Thursday, February 23, 2017

In the summer of 2015 my boyfriend and I went off adventuring in the White Mountains of the Eastern Sierras. This was only a month after I had back surgery and we had dreams of conquering Mt Whitney along with White Mountain but to be perfectly honest, just being able to walk and hike again …

Baldwin Lake Hike Through a Cyclone

By Amber Woods on Wednesday, February 22, 2017

Two months ago I was bunkered down in an apartment in Bangalore as torrential rains flooded the cow shit filled streets. I was a long way from Baldwin Lake, California. We did not leave the apartment for two days because it was raining sideways, harder than I had ever seen in my life and frankly I was …

A Delicious India Vada with Sweet Potatoes, Chilies and Curry Leaves

By Amber Woods on Sunday, February 19, 2017

Only in India can you get fingerprinted and buy a chicken all at the same store. As we traveled the highways and back roads of southern India I was lucky enough to try my first India vada at the same little shop and I was hooked. Welcome to the back roads of India. These roads are framed by …

About Me
Amber Wood
Amber Wood

Hi y’all! I’m Amber, Big Bear’s local Hungry Mountaineer hiking nature guide. I grew up here in the San Bernardino National Forest and I have basically been out exploring hiking trails and enjoying the wilderness as long as I could walk. I have had some amazing adventures out here in the gorgeous San Bernardino Mountains over the years. As a hiking guide who is passionate about the wilderness, I love to share my knowledge of our vast trail system with vacationers who also love the great outdoors. Looking to book a hiking excursion? Email me at Hungrymountaineer@gmail.com for the best locals-only hikes available in this mountain wilderness. I am passionate about finding my balance in life – healthy living, great food, outdoor fitness, traveling adventures, working hard and my unbridled love for racehorses and naturally, gambling. When I’m not exploring news trails or betting on the ponies you can find me either coming up with healthy new recipes or blogging about the adventures my trail pup and I had in the wilderness this week. I have spent most of my life exploring what these mountains have to offer and locals would call me an expert. I know the best hiking and biking trails in these mountains and I have chronicled most of my hikes and adventures in my blog on this website. Please get in touch is you have any questions.
