Repairing an RV Dash, The Easy Way!

By Amber Woods on Wednesday, August 30, 2017

As you all know, my RV is getting on in years. It’s not quite as fast, quiet, or reliable as it once was but I love it anyway! Plus, it’s cheaper to get RV Repair Services when it’s having issues than buying a whole new one! However, there are certain things that I think I …

Baked Meyer Lemon Zucchini Donuts

By Amber Woods on Sunday, August 27, 2017

Today I biked twenty miles on a Tuesday. I am so blessed that I can commit a few hours on some days to a amazing mountain bike ride on a gorgeous spring day. I’m also blessed that although I hurt my ankle the damages were minimal and I was able to enjoy this lakeside view …

Keeping Fido Safe From Rattlesnakes

By Amber Woods on Tuesday, August 22, 2017
rattlesnake

It kills me to say it but this pup is on lockdown. All because of the villain of the forest, the majestic Western Timber Rattlesnake. Yes, today we marked the beginning of summer, I mean rattlesnake season, here in our home in the San Bernardino Mountains. We saw not one, but two angry rattlers yesterday …

How to have a Good Time in a Small Town

By Amber Woods on Thursday, August 17, 2017

It was after dinner and I was working on masking the left side of the house, part of my week long painting project. We were getting ready to watch one of our T.V. shows and honestly go to bed soon after a depressing day of horse racing where we watched the best horse in the …

These Boots are Once Again Made for Walking

By Amber Woods on Monday, August 14, 2017

I’ve put these boots through a hell of a lot. It’s fitting that instead of throwing them out I decided to upcycle them and make them into a whole new boot. Yea for leather restoration. I love recycling clothing, boots included. In order to live a sustainable lifestyle sometimes you have to give boots a …

About Me
Amber Wood
Amber Wood

Hi y’all! I’m Amber, Big Bear’s local Hungry Mountaineer hiking nature guide. I grew up here in the San Bernardino National Forest and I have basically been out exploring hiking trails and enjoying the wilderness as long as I could walk. I have had some amazing adventures out here in the gorgeous San Bernardino Mountains over the years. As a hiking guide who is passionate about the wilderness, I love to share my knowledge of our vast trail system with vacationers who also love the great outdoors. Looking to book a hiking excursion? Email me at Hungrymountaineer@gmail.com for the best locals-only hikes available in this mountain wilderness. I am passionate about finding my balance in life – healthy living, great food, outdoor fitness, traveling adventures, working hard and my unbridled love for racehorses and naturally, gambling. When I’m not exploring news trails or betting on the ponies you can find me either coming up with healthy new recipes or blogging about the adventures my trail pup and I had in the wilderness this week. I have spent most of my life exploring what these mountains have to offer and locals would call me an expert. I know the best hiking and biking trails in these mountains and I have chronicled most of my hikes and adventures in my blog on this website. Please get in touch is you have any questions.
