Fish Balls

Hong Kong to me was fishing villages and tint apartments and some pretty bland Chinese food. It was also incredibly fresh seafood, lots of crab and lobster, a land without napkins and getting yelled at by taxi drivers who didn’t care that we did not speak Chinese. A week in Hong Kong meant checking out …

Senora Loca Del Gato

By Amber Woods on Wednesday, April 25, 2018

Tonight I crossed the line and became that crazy American. All because I really, really like kitty cats. Or maybe I crossed the line to crazy cat lady? It could be both. One thing is for sure, and that is we can not go back to the Kitty Cat Mercado again anytime soon because I’m …

Spiralizer Chinese Chicken Salad

By Amber Woods on Monday, April 23, 2018

One of my favorite things about springtime, besides smuggling illegal immigrants into this country is fresh summer salads. I also love breaking out my mountain bike and hitting some trails that are no longer covered in snow and begining to work on our garden. Wait, did I just say, smuggle in illegal immigrants? I may …

Adventures at Mercado Meow Meow

By Amber Woods on Wednesday, April 18, 2018

Last night I ran across a busy Mexican highway Bangalore India style, dodging cars, trucks, perhaps a donkey or two. Just like when we skirted rickshaws and disabled cows on the busy city streets of Kammanahalli, Bangalore two Christmas’s ago, I made my way across Highway 1D with one goal; Buy ice and snuggle some kittens. …

Hot and Sour Soup

By Amber Woods on Sunday, April 15, 2018

I heard a rumor that today was supposed to be winter. I checked both weather web pages I use and both said eighty percent chance of snow today and rain and snow all week. Yea, I thought to myself, we may just get a week of winter! And then the sun came out. Stupid sunshine …

About Me
Amber Wood
Amber Wood

Hi y’all! I’m Amber, Big Bear’s local Hungry Mountaineer hiking nature guide. I grew up here in the San Bernardino National Forest and I have basically been out exploring hiking trails and enjoying the wilderness as long as I could walk. I have had some amazing adventures out here in the gorgeous San Bernardino Mountains over the years. As a hiking guide who is passionate about the wilderness, I love to share my knowledge of our vast trail system with vacationers who also love the great outdoors. Looking to book a hiking excursion? Email me at Hungrymountaineer@gmail.com for the best locals-only hikes available in this mountain wilderness. I am passionate about finding my balance in life – healthy living, great food, outdoor fitness, traveling adventures, working hard and my unbridled love for racehorses and naturally, gambling. When I’m not exploring news trails or betting on the ponies you can find me either coming up with healthy new recipes or blogging about the adventures my trail pup and I had in the wilderness this week. I have spent most of my life exploring what these mountains have to offer and locals would call me an expert. I know the best hiking and biking trails in these mountains and I have chronicled most of my hikes and adventures in my blog on this website. Please get in touch is you have any questions.
