Viral Christmas Cat Craft

Is this not the cutest Christmas gift of them all?

Anyone who uses the term “I’m bored” does not have cats. I have friends who complain about boredom. I have never been bored a day in my life. I can’t even fathom what boredom might look like in a day filled with work, cleaning the house, trying to find me time on the high elevation alpine hiking trails of Big Bear Lake, California, oh and maybe cracking open a good book, something I have not had time for in over two months now. What is this boredom all you Trad Wives speak of? As for all you bored Crazy Cat Ladies out there, looking for an Easy Christmas Cat Craft, this holiday season? Come with me as we explore this viral Christmas Cat Craze.

With four gloriously hairy pets to take care of, I never find boredom in my life. There is always puke to clean up, bits of random Forest Cat fluff to pick up, a furry Jeep to vacuum, and constant work from being Big Bear Lake, California’s premier outdoor adventure guide. This time of year, that could mean creating 14, yes 14 batches of Christmas cookies within two days for my holiday guests to purchase as add-ons to any experience. But when it comes to viral cat mom trends that feature a bunch of Christmas crap I was about to donate to my local thrift store anyway, sign me up! You won’t find a better Easy Christmas Cat Craft, this holiday season, that also reuses, recycles and helps you enjoy a sustainable Christmas season and keeps those extra Christmas baubles and tidbits out of landfills (For a little bit longer anyway). If you love you r pets the way I love my pets, this is a fantastic way to get creative photos for those holiday cards as well.

The Twins are deciding if they are ready for Christmas magic.

Give me a cardboard box, a hot glue gun and some craft supplies and away I go into the world of crazy cat lady shenanigans! Oh, Instagram, you had me at Easy Christmas Cat Craft.

Apparently, creating a Christmas Fairyland out of a free Costco box is the thing to do this holiday season. At least that is what my social media algorithm tells me.

I don’t embrace letting the cats sit on the dining room table like some Crazy Cat People (Ahem, everyone I’m related to) unless it’s to boost my social media stats, because shouldn’t #25PoundNorwegianForestCatLeo be trending?

There is no reason to trust this box.

I’m all about living that allegedly sustainable lifestyle—reuse, reduce, recycle, and pretend I’m not single-handedly keeping the local landfill in business. So whenever a new IG trend pops up that lets me repurpose my stash of Christmas décor, half-used wrapping paper rolls, rogue bows, and enough ribbons to hog-tie Santa’s entire reindeer team, you know I’m in. If I can declutter even one of the embarrassingly many tubs of “Christmas Joy” I’ve hoarded over the years, well, that’s basically my version of a holiday miracle.

I did it for the Insta, Crazy Christmas Cat Lady Edition

Looking for a way to elevate your Crazy Cat Mom boredom this holiday season? Are you just looking to entertain your indoor cat with a Sustainable Craft that uses leftover Costco boxes and extra Christmas decorations you just happen to have lying around? This is also a fun anti-screen time Christmas break idea for kids who may be saying, “I’m bored” this Christmas break. I also find this distracts my naughty Russian Blue rescue cat from how fun the Christmas tree is this time of year.

Yes, I pilfered some mostly frozen, some may call it Catnip Ice Cream from the garden, to entice my kitty cats to be future Instagram stars. Did it work? Maybe.

The Viral Easy Christmas Cat Craft

Firstly, you need a leftover Costco box. I recommend the biggest discarded Christmas box possible. I was personally between Costco trips and only had two discarded wine boxes to choose from. If there is one thing cats love, it is an old cardboard box. Decorate it with bits and baubles that just cry out for your furry feline friends to play with them. This is every naughty cat’s Christmas dream! Pull those old cardboard boxes out of your recycling bin and away we go! (Cue the Christmas music) Yes, you must blare The Waitresses’ Christmas Wrapping for this adventure. (Holiday Christmas playlist included at the end)

If you have a string of old Christmas lights to put along the outside edge of the box, that is awesome. Sometimes I wrap the whole outer edge of the smaller boxes with leftover Christmas wrapping paper; it just depends on how much leftover Christmas supplies I have available.

So how did it go?

Well, let’s just say I failed at being a Viral Cat Mom Sensation. They say you can teach a dog new tricks. But can you teach a cat to play in a box that you spend over an hour decorating with every Christmas bauble just for them? No, no, you cannot. Even if you throw handfuls of their favorite tuna snacks into the Christmas box, the cats will still look at you, like what is this death trap?

So I decided to pivot and make a different Christmas Cat Box. Then I hid it with the Christmas tree and waited until my family noticed.

I may have failed at making a viral cat fun factory, but one thing I am good at is coming up with a unique Christmas playlist. I don’t know how all these kitty cat influencers convince their cats to actually look cute in a decorated cardboard box, but my cats were too smart for my shenanigans.
