Fall Fashion at Lundy Lake…ish

By Amber Woods on Thursday, November 5, 2020

As an enthusiast of everything outdoors and also a lover of everything from boots to warm sweaters, the month of October has to be one of my favorite times of the year and not just because I can take out all my boxes of recycled fall fashion finds. As the days get shorter mid-October and …

Leather Restoration Fun for Elevating Boredom During a Pandemic

By Amber Woods on Friday, October 30, 2020

Some people may watch loads of Netflix while bored during a quarantine; I prefer to keep my mind occupied with handicapping, betting on the ponies, some gluten-free baking and maybe a little leather restoration. Yes, I said leather restoration, my sustainable fashion craft of choice during this pandemic. Here we are in late October of …

A Beginners Guide to Camping

By Amber Woods on Sunday, October 25, 2020

I’ve been a camper as long as I can remember.  It started when I was a toddler and our family took van camping trips to the river. Yes, my parents were vanners. I’ve heard it was so trendy in the big hair eight-track filled eighties. My dad would pack his famous trash can punch, all his …

curried eggs

I attended a dinner party back in the day when we could still hang out with friends and not be worried about the COVID, where the theme was fiber and lots of it. So between mountain biking the rolling hills of Yorba Linda, California and teaching people how to bet in the suites at Santa …

Don’t forget to feed your Hungry Mountaineer!

By Amber Woods on Saturday, October 17, 2020

It was ten a.m. in the jungles of southern India. I was sweaty, I was hungry and I was hungry. Have I mentioned I was hungry? And apparently, we had to walk by three more villages, six more temples, twelve random cows a pooping, a partridge in a pear tree and three men in …

About Me
Amber Wood
Amber Wood

Hi y’all! I’m Amber, Big Bear’s local Hungry Mountaineer hiking nature guide. I grew up here in the San Bernardino National Forest and I have basically been out exploring hiking trails and enjoying the wilderness as long as I could walk. I have had some amazing adventures out here in the gorgeous San Bernardino Mountains over the years. As a hiking guide who is passionate about the wilderness, I love to share my knowledge of our vast trail system with vacationers who also love the great outdoors. Looking to book a hiking excursion? Email me at Hungrymountaineer@gmail.com for the best locals-only hikes available in this mountain wilderness. I am passionate about finding my balance in life – healthy living, great food, outdoor fitness, traveling adventures, working hard and my unbridled love for racehorses and naturally, gambling. When I’m not exploring news trails or betting on the ponies you can find me either coming up with healthy new recipes or blogging about the adventures my trail pup and I had in the wilderness this week. I have spent most of my life exploring what these mountains have to offer and locals would call me an expert. I know the best hiking and biking trails in these mountains and I have chronicled most of my hikes and adventures in my blog on this website. Please get in touch is you have any questions.
