Why does this hotel room smell like farts and sewage? A Doubletree Diaster

By Amber Wood on Monday, November 29, 2021

My boyfriend and I have stayed in hundreds of hotels around the world. We have never had so many issues from what was supposed to be a contactless check-in to our toilet flooding our entire suite at this Doubletree in Del Mar, California. Our stay at the Doubletree in Del Mar was nothing less than …

Southern California South Bay Beach Town Shenanigan’s

By Amber Wood on Saturday, November 27, 2021

As the Santa Ana winds kicked up to forty miles per hour gusts I knew I had to get the hell out of this mountain town, Big Bear Lake California. With most of the national forests closed in California how was this wanderlust-filled hiker supposed to fill her days? What is there to do if …

Once upon a time, I may have told you that I hate Chinese food. That was B.A. (Before Adrian) Boy was my life just a bit different B.A. I wasn’t a professional hiking guide. I did not have my dream job in the horse racing industry. My healthy living blog was not as successful as …

The Carb Starved Mountaineer’s journey to Ketosis

By Amber Wood on Tuesday, November 9, 2021

As an outdoor adventurer, you would think carbs would fuel my super active lifestyle as I trek beneath the pines of southern California. The outdoor wanderer in me has been way more obsessed with climbing mountains recently than obtaining ketosis. That is all going to change this fall. I’ve been blogging about keto this and …

Fall Fashion and Gambling Guide at Breeder’s Cup 2021

By Amber Wood on Friday, November 5, 2021

The first of November has me more excited than a little kid waiting for Santa Claus on Christmas Eve. Is it the fresh falling leaves and all the smells of autumn in the air perfuming our mountain forest? Maybe it is going for a woodsy stroll with my pup on a crisp November morning. Or …

About Me
Amber Woodyard
Amber Woodyard

Hi y’all! I’m Amber, Big Bear’s local Hungry Mountaineer hiking nature guide. I grew up here in the San Bernardino National Forest and I have basically been out exploring hiking trails and enjoying the wilderness as long as I could walk. I have had some amazing adventures out here in the gorgeous San Bernardino Mountains over the years. As a hiking guide who is passionate about the wilderness, I love to share my knowledge of our vast trail system with vacationers who also love the great outdoors. Looking to book a hiking excursion? Email me at [email protected] for the best locals-only hikes available in this mountain wilderness. I am passionate about finding my balance in life – healthy living, great food, outdoor fitness, traveling adventures, working hard and my unbridled love for racehorses and naturally, gambling. When I’m not exploring news trails or betting on the ponies you can find me either coming up with healthy new recipes or blogging about the adventures my trail pup and I had in the wilderness this week. I have spent most of my life exploring what these mountains have to offer and locals would call me an expert. I know the best hiking and biking trails in these mountains and I have chronicled most of my hikes and adventures in my blog on this website. Please get in touch is you have any questions.
