So You Want to Hike Mt Baldy

By Amber Woods on Tuesday, May 9, 2023

Every Labor Day weekend for the last fifty-two years hundreds of die-hard hikers, trail runners, and plain old crazy outdoor adventurers attempt to run to the top of Mt Baldy, the tallest mountain that overlooks Los Angeles. This trail run, Mt Baldy’s Run to the Top, is not for the faint of heart, anyone afraid …

Candied Bacon Jalapeno Poppers

By Amber Woods on Thursday, May 4, 2023

I thought this would be a great April Fool’s Day post after my healthcare provider told me I could not have Covid because I’m three times vaccinated. Sound like an April Fool’s joke, right? Nope, this really happened to me last winter. I really don’t care what your political leanings are or what you believe …

Here come the Snow Pigs, Happy Earth Day

By Amber Woods on Tuesday, May 2, 2023

Earth Day was a week ago and all over California thousands of Californians are celebrating Mother Earth by treating her like a toilet. I simply adore the wilderness and kind of hate the city-iots (An Idiot from the city that does stupid city things in rural areas. … Look at that city-iot putting snow chains on in the middle of …

Explaining the Urban Myths of Adventuring in Baja California

By Amber Woods on Sunday, April 30, 2023

I’ll never forget the first time I was pulled over by the Mexican police force, the federales in Baja California. Growing up in Southern California you hear lots of stories of how terrifying it is to go on holiday in Mexico and even more terrifying if you get pulled over by the the Policía Federal …

Rose and Indian Food; The Anglo-Indian Fusion you were looking for!

By Amber Woods on Thursday, April 27, 2023

Is there anything better than going on a fifteen-mile ass-kicking hike than having your sexy Indian boyfriend prepare you a south Indian Karnataka dish like Chicken Ghee roast? As you sweat up those mountain passes, calves burning, sweat dripping into your sports bra know there is some cold rose in the motorhome camp back in …

About Me
Amber Wood
Amber Wood

Hi y’all! I’m Amber, Big Bear’s local Hungry Mountaineer hiking nature guide. I grew up here in the San Bernardino National Forest and I have basically been out exploring hiking trails and enjoying the wilderness as long as I could walk. I have had some amazing adventures out here in the gorgeous San Bernardino Mountains over the years. As a hiking guide who is passionate about the wilderness, I love to share my knowledge of our vast trail system with vacationers who also love the great outdoors. Looking to book a hiking excursion? Email me at Hungrymountaineer@gmail.com for the best locals-only hikes available in this mountain wilderness. I am passionate about finding my balance in life – healthy living, great food, outdoor fitness, traveling adventures, working hard and my unbridled love for racehorses and naturally, gambling. When I’m not exploring news trails or betting on the ponies you can find me either coming up with healthy new recipes or blogging about the adventures my trail pup and I had in the wilderness this week. I have spent most of my life exploring what these mountains have to offer and locals would call me an expert. I know the best hiking and biking trails in these mountains and I have chronicled most of my hikes and adventures in my blog on this website. Please get in touch is you have any questions.
