Fig Pizza Explosion

By Amber Woods on Monday, September 19, 2011

After a day of risking my life in a dangerous hiking situation, I need pizza, and I don’t mean Domino’s. I need fancy mountain pizza. And yes, I will be making it on the bar B Q. Sounds not to complicated, right? Except I left the pizza dough in my locker at work, so even …

Boulder Scrambling Indian Summer Adventure

By Amber Woods on Monday, September 19, 2011

Yesterday my feet dangled over the edge of a sheer cliff drop off. I held onto a rope I found wedged between two boulders, and then using all those fine tuned P90X muscles, I pulled my legs up over the edge of the giant boulder, praying the frayed rope wouldn’t give out, dropping me …

Whole Grain Veggie Quesadillas

By Amber Woods on Sunday, September 18, 2011

in between Green Valley and Big Bear        Today was the prefect overcast, thunder storms looming on the horizon kind of day to bust out a hard core workout. I can say that after a week of, well, sitting on my ass, sipping white wine. at Big Bear    It might make me sound lazy, …

Bank of America, I hate you

By Amber Woods on Sunday, September 4, 2011

Let me just say, the reason I was so pissed at Bank of America probably stemmed from the fact that I was still a little pissed off at Arrowbear Water Company for blatantly lying to my face about my meter being read on a monthly bases. Gophers with shovels, my ass. If this makes …

Who are all these idiots, and why are they on my roads?

By Amber Woods on Sunday, September 4, 2011

What does Labor Day weekend mean to me? Well obviously it means sharing my glorious mountain roadways for one weekend with the rest of Southern California. And THAT means flipping off a lot of people and possibly running from the cops. I bet a bunch of them will have to take advantage of great services …

Hike. Jeep. Repeat. Big Bear's only outdoor adventure guide
Amber Woods
Amber Woods

Hi y’all! I’m Amber, Big Bear Lake’s local Hungry Mountaineer hiking nature guide. I grew up here in the San Bernardino National Forest. I have basically been out exploring hiking trails and enjoying the wilderness as long as I could walk. I have had some amazing adventures out here in the gorgeous San Bernardino Mountains over the years. As a alpine adventure enabler who is passionate about the wilderness, I love to share my knowledge of our vast trail system with vacationers who also love the great outdoors. Looking to book a hiking excursion? Email me at Hungrymountaineer@gmail.com for the best locals-only hikes available in this mountain wilderness. I am passionate about finding my balance in life – healthy living, great food, outdoor fitness, traveling adventures, working hard and my unbridled love for racehorses and naturally, gambling. When I’m not exploring news trails or betting on the ponies you can find me either coming up with healthy new recipes or blogging about the adventures my trail pup and I had in the wilderness this week. I have spent most of my life exploring what these mountains have to offer and locals would call me an expert and a backcountry Snack Sherpa. I know the best hiking and biking trails in these mountains and I have chronicled most of my hikes and adventures on this website. Please get in touch is you have any questions.
