Who are all these idiots, and why are they on my roads?

By Amber Wood on Sunday, September 4, 2011

What does Labor Day weekend mean to me? Well obviously it means sharing my glorious mountain roadways for one weekend with the rest of Southern California. And THAT means flipping off a lot of people and possibly running from the cops. I bet a bunch of them will have to take advantage of great services …

Those Damn Squirrels Again!

By Amber Wood on Thursday, September 1, 2011

I live in the mountains. That means whenever anything goes wrong with any thing in my life, the problem gets blamed on either squirrels or gophers. A few years ago, when my car was only six months old, my horn broke. Okay this could have been cause by me honking at flatlanders for twelve straight …

I have a real problem with technology, well most days. Specifically today. It started with my garbage disposal not working. Okay, that’s not really a technological advancement, I mean unless you live in Brittan where they might in the year 2015 actually have garbage disposals? Maybe? Maybe they will have screens on their windows and …

Smoked Turkey Breast

By Amber Wood on Wednesday, August 17, 2011

I would love to smoke a whole turkey, but it takes something like twelve hours for a small bird! I want smoked turkey, but I’m not getting up at 2 A.M. to start it! My favorite part of the turkey is the skin, and sadly I couldn’t find breasts with the skin still on. …

About Me
Amber Woodyard
Amber Woodyard

Hi y’all! I’m Amber, Big Bear’s local Hungry Mountaineer hiking nature guide. I grew up here in the San Bernardino National Forest and I have basically been out exploring hiking trails and enjoying the wilderness as long as I could walk. I have had some amazing adventures out here in the gorgeous San Bernardino Mountains over the years. As a hiking guide who is passionate about the wilderness, I love to share my knowledge of our vast trail system with vacationers who also love the great outdoors. Looking to book a hiking excursion? Email me at [email protected] for the best locals-only hikes available in this mountain wilderness. I am passionate about finding my balance in life – healthy living, great food, outdoor fitness, traveling adventures, working hard and my unbridled love for racehorses and naturally, gambling. When I’m not exploring news trails or betting on the ponies you can find me either coming up with healthy new recipes or blogging about the adventures my trail pup and I had in the wilderness this week. I have spent most of my life exploring what these mountains have to offer and locals would call me an expert. I know the best hiking and biking trails in these mountains and I have chronicled most of my hikes and adventures in my blog on this website. Please get in touch is you have any questions.
