Forest Falls Hike or Why My Friends Refuse to Hike with Me and a recipe for Salmon Salad

By Amber Woods on Thursday, August 15, 2013

Some times the best adventures can be the things that are really not smart ideas at all.   For two weeks now Janette and I have been hearing the tall tales of how glorious the crystal clear waters at the top of Forest Falls are.    “The pools are deep enough to swim.”        “There are …

Candied Ginger Grapefruits

By Amber Woods on Wednesday, August 14, 2013

I’ve been trying to eat healthy for three days.    It’s been really hard and I have done amazing (Well except for last night when I lapsed and had a delicious cold Heineken with dinner)     It is amazing how three days of eating healthy is paying off; even though I have only run …

Who the Hell is Jerry Brown?

By Amber Woods on Monday, August 12, 2013

I went on a date last night that was going just fine until I made a comment about how I had been at Walmart today and a solicitor had asked me to sign a petition to recall Jerry Brown.    I had looked at the guy with his cheap folding table and clip board …

Sweet Potato Waffles with Candied Pecans and Brown Sugar Icing

By Amber Woods on Sunday, August 11, 2013

Some mornings living your life like every day is a vacation means waking up in a bed and breakfast.       Except in a real bed and breakfast I don’t think there would be a angry yet happy cat jumping on my bladder and mewing.    Just because I did not actually wake up on vacation …

The best, and easiest Grilled Trout Ever

By Amber Woods on Saturday, August 10, 2013

Last week I spent a evening casting my line into an alpine lake just a half mile lake from our camp ground.  It was a early June evening and even though we were camping in the highest of the high Sierras the temperature was still in the sixties right before sun set.   Our friends had …

Hike. Jeep. Repeat. Big Bear's only outdoor adventure guide
Amber Woods
Amber Woods

Hi y’all! I’m Amber, Big Bear Lake’s local Hungry Mountaineer hiking nature guide. I grew up here in the San Bernardino National Forest. I have basically been out exploring hiking trails and enjoying the wilderness as long as I could walk. I have had some amazing adventures out here in the gorgeous San Bernardino Mountains over the years. As a alpine adventure enabler who is passionate about the wilderness, I love to share my knowledge of our vast trail system with vacationers who also love the great outdoors. Looking to book a hiking excursion? Email me at Hungrymountaineer@gmail.com for the best locals-only hikes available in this mountain wilderness. I am passionate about finding my balance in life – healthy living, great food, outdoor fitness, traveling adventures, working hard and my unbridled love for racehorses and naturally, gambling. When I’m not exploring news trails or betting on the ponies you can find me either coming up with healthy new recipes or blogging about the adventures my trail pup and I had in the wilderness this week. I have spent most of my life exploring what these mountains have to offer and locals would call me an expert and a backcountry Snack Sherpa. I know the best hiking and biking trails in these mountains and I have chronicled most of my hikes and adventures on this website. Please get in touch is you have any questions.
