Dirty Campers

Country Bear Jamberee

By Amber Wood on Monday, May 19, 2014

“Go eat a fish ass hole!”       Little did I know the furry masked bandit I was yelling at in the camp at three a.m. was the least of our problems as I wrestled the bag of tortilla chips away from him and headed back to my tent that had been slight warm ten …

Life with my Parents; The Nudists

By Amber Wood on Friday, May 16, 2014

When I was thirty years old I briefly kind of moved back in with my parents. I lived in their driveway in their fifth wheel for a summer while I was going through my high net worth divorce with my supposed dream man. Living in close proximity to my parents is proved to be a …

Coconut Cinnamon Raisin Donut French Toast Bites ( Perfect Easy Breakfast for Camping!)

By Amber Wood on Wednesday, May 14, 2014

When I go camping I like to eat delicious high quality food with as minimal clean up as possible. It’s a pain in the ass to wash dishes while camping unless you are RV camping and let’s face it, is that REALLY camping? I prefer sleeping around a campfire in a tent from my local …

The Training Starts Today…

By Amber Wood on Sunday, May 11, 2014

I obviously had to decide to conquer Mt Whitney for the second time when I was in the worst shape I have been in, well, in at least three years.       Seriously it was an effort to run two miles this morning, my calves and ankles were aching a mile up the huge steep trail …

Eggplant Pizzas with Goat Cheese and Cashews

By Amber Wood on Thursday, May 8, 2014

Sometimes love is sweaty.    Sometimes love is stinky.    Sometimes love is when two stink bugs are doing it in the middle of the trail and you are forced to hike around them.    Because no one wants to mess with the ways of nature and what happens when a boy stink bug and a girl …

About Me
Amber Woodyard
Amber Woodyard

Hi y’all! I’m Amber, Big Bear’s local Hungry Mountaineer hiking nature guide. I grew up here in the San Bernardino National Forest and I have basically been out exploring hiking trails and enjoying the wilderness as long as I could walk. I have had some amazing adventures out here in the gorgeous San Bernardino Mountains over the years. As a hiking guide who is passionate about the wilderness, I love to share my knowledge of our vast trail system with vacationers who also love the great outdoors. Looking to book a hiking excursion? Email me at [email protected] for the best locals-only hikes available in this mountain wilderness. I am passionate about finding my balance in life – healthy living, great food, outdoor fitness, traveling adventures, working hard and my unbridled love for racehorses and naturally, gambling. When I’m not exploring news trails or betting on the ponies you can find me either coming up with healthy new recipes or blogging about the adventures my trail pup and I had in the wilderness this week. I have spent most of my life exploring what these mountains have to offer and locals would call me an expert. I know the best hiking and biking trails in these mountains and I have chronicled most of my hikes and adventures in my blog on this website. Please get in touch is you have any questions.
