The Things We Take for Granted

By Amber Woods on Thursday, May 5, 2016

A year ago I was slowly trudging my way up trails, pins and needles constantly shooting up my right leg. That is when I could feel my right leg which was sometimes, on the good days. I usually had a scowl on my face as I ached to run again, my feet flying …

Jalapeño Cheesy Eggs with Pistachio Oil fried Spinach & Avacodo

By Amber Woods on Sunday, May 1, 2016

After a weekend of debauchery Monday morning means a butt busting workout followed by a fresh homemade juice and this healthy Baja inspired breakfast. This spicy breakfast makes me yearn for the beaches of Baja and days spent exploring the countryside near Ensenada. For hours, and hours and hours. Because the toll road is closed …

10 Reasons Why I Don’t Want Spring Yet

By Amber Woods on Friday, April 29, 2016

This morning I had no choice but to drive down from my snowy mountain town into the city and into the day from hell. It was a pain in the ass kind of day which concluded with the kind of sadness which involved me eating a cheeseburger and fries ( Which were amazing! I don’t …

Run Like a Race Horse! Or a Shetland Pony!

By Amber Woods on Thursday, April 28, 2016

It’s Race day! You have run and trained and sweated your little heart out before the 5K or half marathon or mud run or whatever.  You have run in the snow, slipping and sliding through the slush, face frozen solid and your frozen toes like icicles inside your Sarcony trail running shoes. You suffered a terrible disfiguring sports …

Curry baked Coconut Shrimp with Mango Dipping Sauce

By Amber Woods on Sunday, April 24, 2016

Day ten and I am still a sneezing, running, oblique destroying machine! Between rounds of Insanity or Tapout, hours on the trail and time on the bike I am making an effort to get back in shape the last month. Even if I have the worst allergies I have ever had in my life. I …

About Me
Amber Wood
Amber Wood

Hi y’all! I’m Amber, Big Bear’s local Hungry Mountaineer hiking nature guide. I grew up here in the San Bernardino National Forest and I have basically been out exploring hiking trails and enjoying the wilderness as long as I could walk. I have had some amazing adventures out here in the gorgeous San Bernardino Mountains over the years. As a hiking guide who is passionate about the wilderness, I love to share my knowledge of our vast trail system with vacationers who also love the great outdoors. Looking to book a hiking excursion? Email me at Hungrymountaineer@gmail.com for the best locals-only hikes available in this mountain wilderness. I am passionate about finding my balance in life – healthy living, great food, outdoor fitness, traveling adventures, working hard and my unbridled love for racehorses and naturally, gambling. When I’m not exploring news trails or betting on the ponies you can find me either coming up with healthy new recipes or blogging about the adventures my trail pup and I had in the wilderness this week. I have spent most of my life exploring what these mountains have to offer and locals would call me an expert. I know the best hiking and biking trails in these mountains and I have chronicled most of my hikes and adventures in my blog on this website. Please get in touch is you have any questions.
