Tempura Curried Acorn Squash with Tahini Dipping Sauce

By Amber Wood on Tuesday, November 1, 2016

I Just yelled at my dog “Either lay down or kill the bees, those are your choices” Carly is rather frustrated that instead of driving us home (which is what I promised her three hours ago) we are now relaxing at the lake and she does not understand why on earth I keep thrashing around …

Donald Trump Jalapeño Poppers

By Amber Wood on Monday, October 24, 2016

I simply adore my small town Big Bear life living, working and just being in this alpine forest above six thousand feet. If it’s a Thursday you can find me meeting a friend and our mutts at the dog park by the lake for a morning of ball chasing and frolicking in the grass. ( …

By Amber Wood on Saturday, October 22, 2016

When camping in the high sierras breakfast tacos are a must in the morning. They are especially needed after the bears ransack your campground the night before!     Day three of camping in the high Sierras we woke up to discover the bears had feasted the night before.     I had told my friends specifically, …

Where The Hell is Twin Lakes?

By Amber Wood on Thursday, October 20, 2016

I’ve always heard that Twin Lakes near Bridgeport was a fishing mecca and so gorgeous. I finally found my way to Twin Lakes today past ranch after ranch of grazing cattle and down a winding country road that seemed to be taking me to the middle of nowhere. On my drive to Bridgeport up Highway 395 …

About Me
Amber Woodyard
Amber Woodyard

Hi y’all! I’m Amber, Big Bear’s local Hungry Mountaineer hiking nature guide. I grew up here in the San Bernardino National Forest and I have basically been out exploring hiking trails and enjoying the wilderness as long as I could walk. I have had some amazing adventures out here in the gorgeous San Bernardino Mountains over the years. As a hiking guide who is passionate about the wilderness, I love to share my knowledge of our vast trail system with vacationers who also love the great outdoors. Looking to book a hiking excursion? Email me at [email protected] for the best locals-only hikes available in this mountain wilderness. I am passionate about finding my balance in life – healthy living, great food, outdoor fitness, traveling adventures, working hard and my unbridled love for racehorses and naturally, gambling. When I’m not exploring news trails or betting on the ponies you can find me either coming up with healthy new recipes or blogging about the adventures my trail pup and I had in the wilderness this week. I have spent most of my life exploring what these mountains have to offer and locals would call me an expert. I know the best hiking and biking trails in these mountains and I have chronicled most of my hikes and adventures in my blog on this website. Please get in touch is you have any questions.
