Recycled Fashion 101

By Amber Wood on Thursday, April 13, 2017
recycled fashion

I used to think recycled fashion meant hippies who shopped at the local Goodwill in between pot smoking and putting dreads in their hair. I thought recycled fashion was just to crunchy granola for me. I thought you had to vote for Bernie Sanders to love thrift store fashion. Two months ago I discovered how …

Organic Beet Pickled Ginger

By Amber Wood on Monday, April 10, 2017

I have a new addiction. Homemade sushi. If you are making your own sushi from scratch then of course you need to make homemade pickled ginger to go with it! With all my terrible food allergies I am finding these days there are very few foods I can eat that do not destroy my stomach. …

I’m a Tulip Hating Monster. Why I Hate Springtime

By Amber Wood on Friday, April 7, 2017

I’m not the kind of person who enjoys springtime. I know, I know I sound like a tulip hating monster but I just love winter time and snow days and Christmas nights and my North Face snow boots so much. Every year as March starts to dawn and the days get a little less chilly …

Splish Splash my way Through Munich

By Amber Wood on Wednesday, April 5, 2017

One time I went to Munich. I ate more Bavarian brats than I ever considered humanly possible. I drank vats of delicious German beer. I ate so much creamy German milk chocolate. And I cried myself to sleep most nights of this trip. Beer, Brats and chocolate?! Sounds exceptionally wonderful, right? Why was a week …

About Me
Amber Woodyard
Amber Woodyard

Hi y’all! I’m Amber, Big Bear’s local Hungry Mountaineer hiking nature guide. I grew up here in the San Bernardino National Forest and I have basically been out exploring hiking trails and enjoying the wilderness as long as I could walk. I have had some amazing adventures out here in the gorgeous San Bernardino Mountains over the years. As a hiking guide who is passionate about the wilderness, I love to share my knowledge of our vast trail system with vacationers who also love the great outdoors. Looking to book a hiking excursion? Email me at [email protected] for the best locals-only hikes available in this mountain wilderness. I am passionate about finding my balance in life – healthy living, great food, outdoor fitness, traveling adventures, working hard and my unbridled love for racehorses and naturally, gambling. When I’m not exploring news trails or betting on the ponies you can find me either coming up with healthy new recipes or blogging about the adventures my trail pup and I had in the wilderness this week. I have spent most of my life exploring what these mountains have to offer and locals would call me an expert. I know the best hiking and biking trails in these mountains and I have chronicled most of my hikes and adventures in my blog on this website. Please get in touch is you have any questions.
