I’m spending this gorgeous cold and windy autumn day ignoring the mountain trails calling my name. Orange and yellow leaves are coating my favorite hiking trails in a rainbow of falls brilliant colors this November Saturday and I’m curled up on the couch with my man and a carmel vodka spiked latte.
It’s Breeders Cup Saturday.
Today is like the Christmas of horse racing and my birthday all rolled into one glorious day where the best of our American horses get their asses handed to them by the second string of Europe’s great horses.
But we don’t care.
Today is the best day in Thoroughbred horse racing even if our glorious, gorgeous and high strung California mare bled in a work out and was scratched from the big race with the Triple Crown champ a few days ago. Today will be a fantastic day of watching the best thoroughbreds in the world compete even if we do more handi-crapping than handicapping.
I’m watching the Breeders’ Cup on the big screen TV and daydreaming about next year when I will be back stage for this event working at Santa Anita for the 2016 Breeders’ Cup.
I know a lot of my friends are not horse racing fans, but imagine being a football fan or a baseball fan and being at the Super Bowl or the World Series and getting an all access pass to the entire venue for the big game. That’s what the Breeders Cup is going to be like for me next November.
Fall/winter 2016 is going to be epic.
I can’t believe some days how I blessed I am in this marvelous life of mine.
