My Job, My life, My Horse

By Amber Woods on Monday, November 18, 2019

Dear Senator Feinstein, Good morning mame, It’s me again, one of the nameless seventy-seven thousand workers in the horse racing industry here in Southern California. Let me tell you just the cliff notes about myself. My great grandfather Levi Strauss migrated across this great country of ours in the fifties with his family. Before leaving …

Creamy Cheesy Adobe Chili Sauce

By Amber Woods on Friday, November 15, 2019

Trekking up and down autumn leave covered mountain trails usually has me craving a good hearty snack by the time my ten or twelve mile trek through an autumn forest is complete. What is a snack without adobe chilies? Mix together adobe chilies and cream cheese and you have a recipe for delicious perfection. Last …

Horse Racing in California; Our side of the story

By Amber Woods on Tuesday, November 12, 2019

As a horse racing lover watching the news here in California, all you will see in the last six months is the radical lefts biased opinion about what they consider “Those poor horses” That is nothing if not fake news. Last weekend Santa Anita Park hosted the Breeder’s Cup Classic for the tenth time here …

Vacation. The fun never stops until a Coyote eats you

By Amber Woods on Sunday, November 10, 2019

So today we did a thing. The pup and I went out adventuring at dawn and hiked into more than we could handle. Six a.m. on the trail above June Lake and we were past that first mile of murderous straight uphill. The sun was rising over the Owen’s Valley two thousand feet down below …

Sweet Potato Besan Parathas

By Amber Woods on Saturday, November 2, 2019

I never ever get tired of the sheer beauty of Whitney Portal every time I drive up her hairpins towards wilderness adventures. We love in a gorgeous and wild country and I love every moment I get to enjoy her wilderness trails. There is a reason John Muir said: “The clearest way into the Universe …

About Me
Amber Wood
Amber Wood

Hi y’all! I’m Amber, Big Bear’s local Hungry Mountaineer hiking nature guide. I grew up here in the San Bernardino National Forest and I have basically been out exploring hiking trails and enjoying the wilderness as long as I could walk. I have had some amazing adventures out here in the gorgeous San Bernardino Mountains over the years. As a hiking guide who is passionate about the wilderness, I love to share my knowledge of our vast trail system with vacationers who also love the great outdoors. Looking to book a hiking excursion? Email me at Hungrymountaineer@gmail.com for the best locals-only hikes available in this mountain wilderness. I am passionate about finding my balance in life – healthy living, great food, outdoor fitness, traveling adventures, working hard and my unbridled love for racehorses and naturally, gambling. When I’m not exploring news trails or betting on the ponies you can find me either coming up with healthy new recipes or blogging about the adventures my trail pup and I had in the wilderness this week. I have spent most of my life exploring what these mountains have to offer and locals would call me an expert. I know the best hiking and biking trails in these mountains and I have chronicled most of my hikes and adventures in my blog on this website. Please get in touch is you have any questions.
