Escape to Las Vegas during a Global Pandemic

By Amber Woods on Friday, May 21, 2021

When it came to visiting Las Vegas in 2021 three things stood out to me; Pot, the face mask conscientious vigilantes and delicious food without breaking the bank. Taking a spring break holiday to Las Vegas during a global pandemic was an adventure to say the very least. But it wasn’t all a haze of …

Roughing it During a Pandemic; A Palm Desert Vacation in a Self-Sustainable Motorhome

By Amber Woods on Tuesday, May 11, 2021

During a global pandemic, how can you possibly go on a vacation without stepping on a plane? Owning an RV has given our family the chance to actually take a few different vacations during this pandemic because we can travel in our 34 foot Fleetwood motorhome and be fully sustainable. A springtime Palm Desert vacation …

Subaru Screw-Over Part 3

By Amber Woods on Wednesday, May 5, 2021

I can’t believe I am writing another post about my shitty Subaru. In 2002 when I bought my Subaru Baja, I loved my SUV/truck and still to this day it was my favorite vehicle I have ever owned. I mean that was before a mentally challenged ex-boyfriend drove it basically into a river and destroyed …

Keto Chicken and Chile Relleno Stuffed Poblano Peppers

By Amber Woods on Sunday, May 2, 2021

We just came back from a week-long holiday in Palm Desert where I attempted to fit into all my pre-pandemic bathing suits. It was not a pretty sight. When your bikini flab is rolling over your swimwear, just hold this dog in every photo! Thank God for healthy keto recipes like this delious chile relleno …

Living in an RV – Staying Self Sustainable During a Global Pandemic

By Amber Woods on Monday, April 26, 2021

The thought of living in an RV full-time has come up many times in our family recently. In the mountain hamlet, we call home amongst the pines of the San Bernardino National Forest, home prices have skyrocketed to just ridiculous heights. The thought of listing our home for sale and toughing it out by living …

About Me
Amber Wood
Amber Wood

Hi y’all! I’m Amber, Big Bear’s local Hungry Mountaineer hiking nature guide. I grew up here in the San Bernardino National Forest and I have basically been out exploring hiking trails and enjoying the wilderness as long as I could walk. I have had some amazing adventures out here in the gorgeous San Bernardino Mountains over the years. As a hiking guide who is passionate about the wilderness, I love to share my knowledge of our vast trail system with vacationers who also love the great outdoors. Looking to book a hiking excursion? Email me at Hungrymountaineer@gmail.com for the best locals-only hikes available in this mountain wilderness. I am passionate about finding my balance in life – healthy living, great food, outdoor fitness, traveling adventures, working hard and my unbridled love for racehorses and naturally, gambling. When I’m not exploring news trails or betting on the ponies you can find me either coming up with healthy new recipes or blogging about the adventures my trail pup and I had in the wilderness this week. I have spent most of my life exploring what these mountains have to offer and locals would call me an expert. I know the best hiking and biking trails in these mountains and I have chronicled most of my hikes and adventures in my blog on this website. Please get in touch is you have any questions.
