Thanks a lot Pot Heads

By Amber Woods on Thursday, October 13, 2011

I’d just like to say thank you pot heads for ruining my mountain. I would like to be able to enjoy the pristine mountain forests with out the worry that one day I will be out hiking and come across a fire arm guarded marijuana grow area.    This rant is brought to you by yesterdays drug …

The Crazy Cat Lady

By Amber Woods on Sunday, October 9, 2011

Some people seem to be under the impression that I’m out here leading some crazy partying life style. When really? Not the case at all. Like what happened to me today.    Living in the mountains I don’t make it to Walmart to stock up very often. Okay one of the reasons is I can’t …

A word about Sweaty Horses

By Amber Woods on Friday, September 30, 2011

I’m siting in my gamblers paradise (Aptly named by a friend of mine) this morning, watching TVG (Horse racing T.V. Supreme) and the big news story this morning is trying to get all the United States race tracks to start recording their coverage in high definition. According to TVG there are about …

Oh Shit

By Amber Woods on Friday, September 30, 2011

View from the top of Keller’s         Today’s rant is brought to you by the letter D, as in Dog Shit. As in people in our local mountains tend to kind of be ass holes, as I discovered on this mornings at Kellers Peak.     A gorgeous crisp morning …

Spaghetti Squash with Meyer Lemon Oil

By Amber Woods on Tuesday, September 20, 2011

Even though it is now late September I’m holding on to summer desperately. Okay well kind of. I did make spaghetti squash today, a food very fall like in nature, but dammit, I also went to the lake one last time!     As I did my P90X this morning, I realized it was very, …

Hike. Jeep. Repeat. Big Bear's only outdoor adventure guide
Amber Woods
Amber Woods

Hi y’all! I’m Amber, Big Bear Lake’s local Hungry Mountaineer hiking nature guide. I grew up here in the San Bernardino National Forest. I have basically been out exploring hiking trails and enjoying the wilderness as long as I could walk. I have had some amazing adventures out here in the gorgeous San Bernardino Mountains over the years. As a alpine adventure enabler who is passionate about the wilderness, I love to share my knowledge of our vast trail system with vacationers who also love the great outdoors. Looking to book a hiking excursion? Email me at Hungrymountaineer@gmail.com for the best locals-only hikes available in this mountain wilderness. I am passionate about finding my balance in life – healthy living, great food, outdoor fitness, traveling adventures, working hard and my unbridled love for racehorses and naturally, gambling. When I’m not exploring news trails or betting on the ponies you can find me either coming up with healthy new recipes or blogging about the adventures my trail pup and I had in the wilderness this week. I have spent most of my life exploring what these mountains have to offer and locals would call me an expert and a backcountry Snack Sherpa. I know the best hiking and biking trails in these mountains and I have chronicled most of my hikes and adventures on this website. Please get in touch is you have any questions.
