A Urination Situation

By Amber Woods on Wednesday, January 2, 2013

Most people have parents who would be proud of them if they were a doctor or a lawyer or got a A+ on a test. In my family, things are a little different. My Dad is proud that none of his kids are in jail or on drugs. He has said this to us many …

Fall

By Amber Woods on Sunday, December 30, 2012

If there is one thing I do well it is fall.   I can be running fast flat out down a hill, trip over a root and fall as soft as a leaf into the dirt. I’m majorly skilled at catching myself in situations like this.   Maybe it’s all the horse racing I watch, watching …

Price Club? Wwwhhhaaattt?

By Amber Woods on Sunday, December 30, 2012

Christmas 2012 was the year some one told my dad that Price Club went out of business. This was after he referenced Price Club about fifteen times during dinner. My Mom finally broke the news to him during dessert that they shop at Costco now, and have done that for ten years.    Our family …

Merry Christmas Crackheads

By Amber Woods on Tuesday, December 25, 2012

Tonight I survived Del Taco.   I’m a foodie, and I do not eat fast food, like, ever.   I eat things like sushi, goat cheese and liver.   A macho meal? Excuse me? What does that even mean?   Tonight, Christmas Eve, I tried to go to my favorite hole in the wall Mexican place. Okay, yes …

My Sunset Run

By Amber Woods on Sunday, December 23, 2012

There is a place I love to run at sunset.    It sits at about seven thousand feet and you have glorious views of the valley below this forest as the sun crashes into the clouds and the ocean many miles in the distance.   There is a tiny alpine lake and when I run …

Hike. Jeep. Repeat. Big Bear's only outdoor adventure guide
Amber Woods
Amber Woods

Hi y’all! I’m Amber, Big Bear Lake’s local Hungry Mountaineer hiking nature guide. I grew up here in the San Bernardino National Forest. I have basically been out exploring hiking trails and enjoying the wilderness as long as I could walk. I have had some amazing adventures out here in the gorgeous San Bernardino Mountains over the years. As a alpine adventure enabler who is passionate about the wilderness, I love to share my knowledge of our vast trail system with vacationers who also love the great outdoors. Looking to book a hiking excursion? Email me at Hungrymountaineer@gmail.com for the best locals-only hikes available in this mountain wilderness. I am passionate about finding my balance in life – healthy living, great food, outdoor fitness, traveling adventures, working hard and my unbridled love for racehorses and naturally, gambling. When I’m not exploring news trails or betting on the ponies you can find me either coming up with healthy new recipes or blogging about the adventures my trail pup and I had in the wilderness this week. I have spent most of my life exploring what these mountains have to offer and locals would call me an expert and a backcountry Snack Sherpa. I know the best hiking and biking trails in these mountains and I have chronicled most of my hikes and adventures on this website. Please get in touch is you have any questions.
