Mountain Biking so I can eat homemade Twix Bars… made with Nutella!!!!

By Amber Woods on Monday, April 22, 2013

Mountain biking is kicking my ass.    Luckily for me, this ass kicking has made my ass slightly smaller which is good because I have been on a complete dessert kick this past week.   Today I made Homemade Twix Bars with Nutella, and Homemade Smores Cookies with Carmel. (The smores recipe will be up in a …

R is for Rednecks and Critters

By Amber Woods on Saturday, April 20, 2013

Today I introduced a new friend to a new area to her.     The Mountains.      It turned into way more of an adventure than it should have been.     J is kind of new to Southern California used to the fog and hippies of the Bay Area.      The plan was to hike to a popular …

P is for… Pelicans

By Amber Woods on Thursday, April 18, 2013

While driving on the north shore of Big Bear lake I came across this happy pelican family.     They seem to be a bit lost from their ocean home.    Or maybe they are just on a family vacation?

O… is for On the Trail

By Amber Woods on Wednesday, April 17, 2013

This month I’m doing the A-Z Blogging challenge and today’s letter is O, as in On the Trail.     It has crossed my mind recently that it would be fun to sign up to do Trail Angel stuff along the Pacific Crest Trail.  Note I did not say it would be fun to hike the Pacific …

N is for… Not Real

By Amber Woods on Tuesday, April 16, 2013

One hour ago my feet were pounding over a running trail in this forest I love. There was nothing more on my mind than the Cream of Asparagus Soup I had left simmering on my stove for my prework out lunch on this chilly April day.      My legs were flying through the dirt as I …

Hike. Jeep. Repeat. Big Bear's only outdoor adventure guide
Amber Woods
Amber Woods

Hi y’all! I’m Amber, Big Bear Lake’s local Hungry Mountaineer hiking nature guide. I grew up here in the San Bernardino National Forest. I have basically been out exploring hiking trails and enjoying the wilderness as long as I could walk. I have had some amazing adventures out here in the gorgeous San Bernardino Mountains over the years. As a alpine adventure enabler who is passionate about the wilderness, I love to share my knowledge of our vast trail system with vacationers who also love the great outdoors. Looking to book a hiking excursion? Email me at Hungrymountaineer@gmail.com for the best locals-only hikes available in this mountain wilderness. I am passionate about finding my balance in life – healthy living, great food, outdoor fitness, traveling adventures, working hard and my unbridled love for racehorses and naturally, gambling. When I’m not exploring news trails or betting on the ponies you can find me either coming up with healthy new recipes or blogging about the adventures my trail pup and I had in the wilderness this week. I have spent most of my life exploring what these mountains have to offer and locals would call me an expert and a backcountry Snack Sherpa. I know the best hiking and biking trails in these mountains and I have chronicled most of my hikes and adventures on this website. Please get in touch is you have any questions.
