G is for… God Bless America

By Amber Woods on Monday, April 8, 2013

Looking at this beautiful sight one would think that this small town country home stead and barn were located in a farming area of Colorado or Montana.   Can you believe this is Southern California?    I took this picture at the end of a fourteen mile run.  Maybe I was just high off of endorphins …

F is for… Farting with my Armpits; A How to Guide

By Amber Woods on Saturday, April 6, 2013

I realize I have not written about bodily functions in a while, which is kind of weird since I have the sense of humor of a twelve year old boy and I make these kind of jokes a lot.    Last night at work my coworker was peppering the story I was trying to tell …

E is for… Exhaustion

By Amber Woods on Friday, April 5, 2013

Good morning day five of April’s A-Z blogging six days a week Yea Fun.   So today is the letter E..   E is for exhaustion, like when you accidentally run to the top of a mountain.   Last week I ran to the top of Sugar Loaf Mountain, yes by accident.   It is early spring here …

E is for…Easy Kung Pao Chicken Stir Fry

By Amber Woods on Friday, April 5, 2013

I do a lot of intense cooking with fifteen different ingredients and all kinds of goat cheeses.    Some days I like to take just a simple pre made frozen meal and make it a little better and maybe a little healthier by adding more veggies.   Have you tried Trader Joe’s frozen Kung Pao Chicken?   …

D is for a Deer, a Female Deer

By Amber Woods on Thursday, April 4, 2013

Today might have been a Monday.   I was running late.   I guess it really was not that horribly late considering all I had to do before work at three was go for a run and drop off my grandma’s present for her eighty third birthday.   Still, I was about an hour behind where I …

Hike. Jeep. Repeat. Big Bear's only outdoor adventure guide
Amber Woods
Amber Woods

Hi y’all! I’m Amber, Big Bear Lake’s local Hungry Mountaineer hiking nature guide. I grew up here in the San Bernardino National Forest. I have basically been out exploring hiking trails and enjoying the wilderness as long as I could walk. I have had some amazing adventures out here in the gorgeous San Bernardino Mountains over the years. As a alpine adventure enabler who is passionate about the wilderness, I love to share my knowledge of our vast trail system with vacationers who also love the great outdoors. Looking to book a hiking excursion? Email me at Hungrymountaineer@gmail.com for the best locals-only hikes available in this mountain wilderness. I am passionate about finding my balance in life – healthy living, great food, outdoor fitness, traveling adventures, working hard and my unbridled love for racehorses and naturally, gambling. When I’m not exploring news trails or betting on the ponies you can find me either coming up with healthy new recipes or blogging about the adventures my trail pup and I had in the wilderness this week. I have spent most of my life exploring what these mountains have to offer and locals would call me an expert and a backcountry Snack Sherpa. I know the best hiking and biking trails in these mountains and I have chronicled most of my hikes and adventures on this website. Please get in touch is you have any questions.
