Did a Small Dog Just Fly By the Tent?

By Amber Woods on Thursday, October 9, 2014

If there is one thing that pisses me off it’s when my sleep is interrupted.      Last night as I lay in an incredibly comfortable tent in a super warm sleeping bag I felt like our brand new super fancy tent was going to go flying into the high sierras lake …

By Amber Woods on Wednesday, October 8, 2014

I’m going to need to enjoy a beer while my toes sink into a brisk alpine lake after we finally finish ascending this mountain pass, I was thinking. We were trying to make it to the top of Summit Pass at over 10,000 feet. We had been sweating and hiking fast up hill for …

By Amber Woods on Wednesday, October 1, 2014

Yesterday I just wanted to hike some new trails.      We ended up hiking to the lake of assholes which was way more scenic than one would think.       It was actually a very pleasant experience as opposed to what one would think when assholes are involved.       …

When you take Cat Lady on Vacation…

By Amber Woods on Sunday, September 28, 2014

Babe! There’s an animal outside the tent!” I’m huddling in my nice warm sleeping bag. It’s two a.m. And I am very confused.       “What?”        “There’s an animal outside the tent! Do you hear that noise? What is that noise? It sounds like purring!” I’m shaking him …

About Me
Amber Wood
Amber Wood

Hi y’all! I’m Amber, Big Bear’s local Hungry Mountaineer hiking nature guide. I grew up here in the San Bernardino National Forest and I have basically been out exploring hiking trails and enjoying the wilderness as long as I could walk. I have had some amazing adventures out here in the gorgeous San Bernardino Mountains over the years. As a hiking guide who is passionate about the wilderness, I love to share my knowledge of our vast trail system with vacationers who also love the great outdoors. Looking to book a hiking excursion? Email me at Hungrymountaineer@gmail.com for the best locals-only hikes available in this mountain wilderness. I am passionate about finding my balance in life – healthy living, great food, outdoor fitness, traveling adventures, working hard and my unbridled love for racehorses and naturally, gambling. When I’m not exploring news trails or betting on the ponies you can find me either coming up with healthy new recipes or blogging about the adventures my trail pup and I had in the wilderness this week. I have spent most of my life exploring what these mountains have to offer and locals would call me an expert. I know the best hiking and biking trails in these mountains and I have chronicled most of my hikes and adventures in my blog on this website. Please get in touch is you have any questions.
