Birthday Weekend Carb Pig Out in Leucadia, Ca

By Amber Woods on Monday, October 12, 2015

If there is one thing I want for my birthday it is a day of betting on ponies, having cocktails with friends, eating delicious food and enjoying the beach weather. My thirty fifth birthday celebration had all of the above. Our Del Mar vacation had a late start which wouldn’t have been a problem except …

Caramelized Curried Acorn Squash

By Amber Woods on Sunday, October 11, 2015

I love my small town life so much. Truth be told I am kind of obsessed with this small town living, rural way of life. I’m sitting on my front porch in yoga pants wearing my new super comfy Ugg boots and covered in all my loveable cats. Of course I’m sipping a vanilla finding …

Why You Should Never Give Yourself a Sponge Bath While Drinking

By Amber Woods on Saturday, October 10, 2015

Why you should never give yourself a sponge bath while drinking. I am officially the dirty camper. I thought before on hiking trips those days and days of camping fun that I knew what being the dirty camper was. Even though I have jumped in crisp cold alpine lakes and frolicked beneath water falls nearly …

Welcome to the Future

By Amber Woods on Friday, October 9, 2015

When I was a little kid I had a tiny black and white t.v. with a knob that fell off. In the late eighties and early nineties this was how we changed the channel. This crappy old eighties television set was a big deal. Being that I was the oldest child I had my own …

Wanderlust

By Amber Woods on Wednesday, October 7, 2015

Wanderlust. We all have it inside of us. Sometimes its just the intense need to get out of the city and go for a drive. If only my wanderlust was as simple as that. I’m sitting here on a cold and rainy autumn day. I just brewed up an Earl Grey lavender latte with coconut …

About Me
Amber Wood
Amber Wood

Hi y’all! I’m Amber, Big Bear’s local Hungry Mountaineer hiking nature guide. I grew up here in the San Bernardino National Forest and I have basically been out exploring hiking trails and enjoying the wilderness as long as I could walk. I have had some amazing adventures out here in the gorgeous San Bernardino Mountains over the years. As a hiking guide who is passionate about the wilderness, I love to share my knowledge of our vast trail system with vacationers who also love the great outdoors. Looking to book a hiking excursion? Email me at Hungrymountaineer@gmail.com for the best locals-only hikes available in this mountain wilderness. I am passionate about finding my balance in life – healthy living, great food, outdoor fitness, traveling adventures, working hard and my unbridled love for racehorses and naturally, gambling. When I’m not exploring news trails or betting on the ponies you can find me either coming up with healthy new recipes or blogging about the adventures my trail pup and I had in the wilderness this week. I have spent most of my life exploring what these mountains have to offer and locals would call me an expert. I know the best hiking and biking trails in these mountains and I have chronicled most of my hikes and adventures in my blog on this website. Please get in touch is you have any questions.
