Curry baked Coconut Shrimp with Mango Dipping Sauce

By Amber Woods on Sunday, April 24, 2016

Day ten and I am still a sneezing, running, oblique destroying machine! Between rounds of Insanity or Tapout, hours on the trail and time on the bike I am making an effort to get back in shape the last month. Even if I have the worst allergies I have ever had in my life. I …

Coconut Mocha Smoothie

By Amber Woods on Wednesday, April 20, 2016

It’s so weird to be in a place I called home for ten years and feel so lost. I’ve lived in this house since 2004 and it never really felt like home to me, even when I was living in that house four years ago, repainted, replaced furniture I hated with furniture I loved and adopted a baby kitten …

Plum Pollen Potential Paranoia

By Amber Woods on Sunday, April 17, 2016

This would be the most fantastic rainy day ever if I wasn’t sneezing my ass off. This is technically my second spring time full time in Big Bear, which is only thirty minutes up the road from the pine forest where I grew up and lived for thirty years. So how is it that you …

Stupid Beautiful Cold

By Amber Woods on Thursday, April 14, 2016

It was seriously stupid cold this morning. Twenty five degrees with a wind chill that gave me an instant headache as we explored the shores of Big Bear Lake. My little puppy dog kicked up the snow happily and raced back and forth along the snowy shores of Big Bear Lake. (Obviously one of was …

Mornings on Sugarloaf Mountain

By Amber Woods on Monday, April 11, 2016

Late March is definitely not the best time to hike to a place called Green Meadow but I had never seen the top of Mount Sugarloaf in the snow. I had heard legendary tales of how beautiful the top of this mountain was when you snowshoe to the top in three feet of snow. Luckily for …

About Me
Amber Wood
Amber Wood

Hi y’all! I’m Amber, Big Bear’s local Hungry Mountaineer hiking nature guide. I grew up here in the San Bernardino National Forest and I have basically been out exploring hiking trails and enjoying the wilderness as long as I could walk. I have had some amazing adventures out here in the gorgeous San Bernardino Mountains over the years. As a hiking guide who is passionate about the wilderness, I love to share my knowledge of our vast trail system with vacationers who also love the great outdoors. Looking to book a hiking excursion? Email me at Hungrymountaineer@gmail.com for the best locals-only hikes available in this mountain wilderness. I am passionate about finding my balance in life – healthy living, great food, outdoor fitness, traveling adventures, working hard and my unbridled love for racehorses and naturally, gambling. When I’m not exploring news trails or betting on the ponies you can find me either coming up with healthy new recipes or blogging about the adventures my trail pup and I had in the wilderness this week. I have spent most of my life exploring what these mountains have to offer and locals would call me an expert. I know the best hiking and biking trails in these mountains and I have chronicled most of my hikes and adventures in my blog on this website. Please get in touch is you have any questions.
