Durian Durian; A Stinky Hong Kong Adventure

By Amber Woods on Saturday, January 28, 2017

I just stunk up a aerial tram and it had nothing to do with my butt! Today in Hong Kong I accidentally rediscovered durian fruit and I know one aerial tram car that will never be the same! This morning we spent time exploring the Big Buddha monument near Tung Chong. It was a cloudy …

The Whitest Teeth in Wales

By Amber Woods on Friday, January 27, 2017

Every where I went in Wales people stared at my teeth. Perhaps it was because of how shiny white they were. Whilst many people have to ask questions like “are crest whitestrips safe for pregnancy“, I didn’t have to so getting my teeth to look great is easier for me. I could just read reviews …

Beans on Toast… An Adventure in England a Healthier California Version of an English Breakfast Classic

By Amber Woods on Thursday, January 26, 2017

I think I got the travel bug with my first trip to Mexico. That first amazing warm corn tortilla and cabbage filled fish taco had me hooked. It was a long and adventurous road from my first fish taco to beans on toast in the U.K. I wanted to travel, and I wanted to eat. …

It’s nine a.m. And I’m on my fourth cup of coffee!  After missing our flight to the southern tip of India the day before I’m going to squeeze every bit of fun out of our thirty six hours at Poovar Island Resort even if I have to do it in a caffeine fueled frenzy! We …

Stonehenge; That One Really Cold Day in England

By Amber Woods on Tuesday, January 24, 2017

England is a damp place to visit. But it’s worth it for crazy cool sites like Stonehenge.      It has always been a damp, cold, and dreary place every time I have flown across the pond for pasties, chips and a few cold pints of Stella.      But that is just fine with me. …

Hike. Jeep. Repeat. Big Bear's only outdoor adventure guide
Amber Woods
Amber Woods

Hi y’all! I’m Amber, Big Bear Lake’s local Hungry Mountaineer hiking nature guide. I grew up here in the San Bernardino National Forest. I have basically been out exploring hiking trails and enjoying the wilderness as long as I could walk. I have had some amazing adventures out here in the gorgeous San Bernardino Mountains over the years. As a alpine adventure enabler who is passionate about the wilderness, I love to share my knowledge of our vast trail system with vacationers who also love the great outdoors. Looking to book a hiking excursion? Email me at Hungrymountaineer@gmail.com for the best locals-only hikes available in this mountain wilderness. I am passionate about finding my balance in life – healthy living, great food, outdoor fitness, traveling adventures, working hard and my unbridled love for racehorses and naturally, gambling. When I’m not exploring news trails or betting on the ponies you can find me either coming up with healthy new recipes or blogging about the adventures my trail pup and I had in the wilderness this week. I have spent most of my life exploring what these mountains have to offer and locals would call me an expert and a backcountry Snack Sherpa. I know the best hiking and biking trails in these mountains and I have chronicled most of my hikes and adventures on this website. Please get in touch is you have any questions.
