Beans on Toast… An Adventure in England a Healthier California Version of an English Breakfast Classic

By Amber Woods on Thursday, January 26, 2017

I think I got the travel bug with my first trip to Mexico. That first amazing warm corn tortilla and cabbage filled fish taco had me hooked. It was a long and adventurous road from my first fish taco to beans on toast in the U.K. I wanted to travel, and I wanted to eat. …

Red Lentil Ulundu Style Vadas with Curry Leaves

By Amber Woods on Wednesday, January 25, 2017

It’s nine a.m. And I’m on my fourth cup of coffee!  After missing our flight to the southern tip of India the day before I’m going to squeeze every bit of fun out of our thirty six hours at Poovar Island Resort even if I have to do it in a caffeine fueled frenzy! We …

Stonehenge; That One Really Cold Day in England

By Amber Woods on Tuesday, January 24, 2017

England is a damp place to visit. But it’s worth it for crazy cool sites like Stonehenge.      It has always been a damp, cold, and dreary place every time I have flown across the pond for pasties, chips and a few cold pints of Stella.      But that is just fine with me. …

Can I get 7-2 That I Can’t do a Two Step?

By Amber Woods on Friday, January 20, 2017

Tonight I spent my evening slow dancing with my boyfriend to the Bellamy Brothers, one of my favorite old school country bands, in the country of India, no less. Than I survived the scariest restaurant ever at three a.m. and thanked my blessings that butter chicken would not be my last meal at three a.m. …

Spicy Tomato Coconut Chutney

By Amber Woods on Wednesday, January 18, 2017

Last night my boyfriend thundered up the stairs of our vacation tree house home at midnight like a herd of bison were chasing after him. He begged me to get out of my nice warm bed as there were multiple elephants right outside our door feeding on the branches that grew right outside our tree …

About Me
Amber Wood
Amber Wood

Hi y’all! I’m Amber, Big Bear’s local Hungry Mountaineer hiking nature guide. I grew up here in the San Bernardino National Forest and I have basically been out exploring hiking trails and enjoying the wilderness as long as I could walk. I have had some amazing adventures out here in the gorgeous San Bernardino Mountains over the years. As a hiking guide who is passionate about the wilderness, I love to share my knowledge of our vast trail system with vacationers who also love the great outdoors. Looking to book a hiking excursion? Email me at Hungrymountaineer@gmail.com for the best locals-only hikes available in this mountain wilderness. I am passionate about finding my balance in life – healthy living, great food, outdoor fitness, traveling adventures, working hard and my unbridled love for racehorses and naturally, gambling. When I’m not exploring news trails or betting on the ponies you can find me either coming up with healthy new recipes or blogging about the adventures my trail pup and I had in the wilderness this week. I have spent most of my life exploring what these mountains have to offer and locals would call me an expert. I know the best hiking and biking trails in these mountains and I have chronicled most of my hikes and adventures in my blog on this website. Please get in touch is you have any questions.
