Getting Stalked at The Grand Canyon, a Camping Adventure

By Amber Woods on Thursday, April 27, 2017

In 1977 my parents drove from the Los Angeles Suburbs to the Grand Canyon on the back of a motorcycle for their honeymoon. This was in April, 1977, and I’m going to assume the weather was much warmer in April 1977 then April 2010. In April 2010 I drove to the Grand Canyon for the …

Chicken Liver with Fresh Curry Leaves and Saffron

By Amber Woods on Tuesday, April 25, 2017

On day five in India I thought I was brave enough to go out by myself to a restaurant and order a meal. This would have been fine but I have no idea how to say chicken liver in Tamil, Hindi or any language other than English. When we planned out our India trip, my …

No More Grocery Store Reflexology

By Amber Woods on Sunday, April 23, 2017

I just wouldn’t be a typical Monday in my life if I was not embarrassing the shit out of myself. This weeks embarrassment involved having reflexology performed on me for the first time in the middle of Stater Brothers and then almost passing out. I really couldn’t make this up if I tried. Yes, this …

How to Deal with Allergies Naturally

By Amber Woods on Thursday, April 20, 2017

Call them allergies, hay fever or just a royal pain in the ass (And the nose!) but some peoples allergies seem to take over their lives in the spring time. I love spending every waking hour outside as soon as spring times warmer days start to thaw us out from the chills of icy winter …

Recycled Fashion 101

By Amber Woods on Thursday, April 13, 2017
recycled fashion

I used to think recycled fashion meant hippies who shopped at the local Goodwill in between pot smoking and putting dreads in their hair. I thought recycled fashion was just to crunchy granola for me. I thought you had to vote for Bernie Sanders to love thrift store fashion. Two months ago I discovered how …

About Me
Amber Wood
Amber Wood

Hi y’all! I’m Amber, Big Bear’s local Hungry Mountaineer hiking nature guide. I grew up here in the San Bernardino National Forest and I have basically been out exploring hiking trails and enjoying the wilderness as long as I could walk. I have had some amazing adventures out here in the gorgeous San Bernardino Mountains over the years. As a hiking guide who is passionate about the wilderness, I love to share my knowledge of our vast trail system with vacationers who also love the great outdoors. Looking to book a hiking excursion? Email me at Hungrymountaineer@gmail.com for the best locals-only hikes available in this mountain wilderness. I am passionate about finding my balance in life – healthy living, great food, outdoor fitness, traveling adventures, working hard and my unbridled love for racehorses and naturally, gambling. When I’m not exploring news trails or betting on the ponies you can find me either coming up with healthy new recipes or blogging about the adventures my trail pup and I had in the wilderness this week. I have spent most of my life exploring what these mountains have to offer and locals would call me an expert. I know the best hiking and biking trails in these mountains and I have chronicled most of my hikes and adventures in my blog on this website. Please get in touch is you have any questions.
