A Day at the Zoo; Porcopine Man Smell, Foxy Foxes and holding Animals that are Terrified of me

The redtail hawk writes songs across the sky,
There’s music in the waters flowing by,
And you can hear a song each time the wind sighs,
In the golden rolling hills of California.
Words from one of my favorite Kate Wolf song
.
I always wonder when I’m hiking how Cooper Hawks look different from Red Tailed Hawks. I always THINK the hawks I see are Cooper’s, but I’m not sure. After looking at these Red Tailed Hawks up close, okay I can see the difference now. Red Tailed Hawks are HUGE for one thing.
Also, Red Tailed Hawks are really, well, red.
Like so shiny, beautiful red, I even I, with my horrible eye sight would be able to tell the difference.
These pictures were all taken yesterday at my good friend Rachael’ work.
Yeah, she’s an animal trainer.
You know that hot red head who’s always on Channel Five news in the morning letting the news reporters hold monkeys and tarantulas?
That hottie is my BFF from when I was a little girl.
I am so lucky, that on occasion when I make it down to the San Fernando Valley, I get to go on a back stage tour of the little zoo she works for in Simi Valley, The Wildlife Learning Center.
Yeah, that’s right, I’m holding a owl.
And yeah, I’m kind of terrified it will claw my face.
That’s what this look is all about.
Not as scary as when I held the fancy bunnies, and Rachael informed us you have to hold the bunnies in a special way or they will kick and break their backs.
Yes, in this pic, I’m thinking
“Shit, I’m going to break the bunny!”

Cat love, aww!

Just like my cats….

Hyper little fox stood still for one second so I could take his picture

In this picture I’m slightly less concerned about having my face destroyed and more concerned about when we are going to have lunch.

Boomer, the Lynx
Anyone else get to pet a Lynx today? No, I didn’t think so.
What a great day off!

Petting Boomer the Lynx, which was so f’ing awesome! Made my day!

    Awesome. Simply that.
I remember my dad had a hawk trainer friend (there’s a name for hawk people…I forget) which I thought was cool.
But that’s neat you kinda got a personalized special tour of the zoo with Rachael! I’ve yet to see her on tv cause I rarely watch the news though. I’m rambling so I will shut up.

How lucky you were to get up closer and personal to these creatures. It always amazes me how light birds are when you hold them but logically they need to be in order to fly.

Thank you for adding this post to #AnimalTales and apologies for being so late reading and commenting. I have been struck down by an evil lurgy and am only just getting back on track. The next linky opens tomorrow so I hope you can join in.
