Running in Snow Shoes; not a Pretty Sight

By Amber Woods on Sunday, December 18, 2011

Four days ago I accomplished my best run yet, almost seven miles at Rim Nordic with Alicia. It was a gorgeous fall day, running through the snow. Seriously, in spots, the snow is a foot deep here, and keep in mind, it hasn’t actually snowed in weeks. Rim Nordic is the local cross country ski …

Saturday’s Arrowbear Rant

By Amber Woods on Saturday, December 10, 2011

I’ve never met a lab I didn’t like.   Before tonight.   When I was almost mauled by a snarling beast.   Does it seem like I complain a lot about dogs attacking me when I run? It happens almost every  day I run in Arrowbear! Not surprising in the least bit that  a Akida was just hit on the …

Mountain Sunrise

By Amber Woods on Tuesday, December 6, 2011

Getting in a sunrise run is a perfect way to start a fall morning. If I could pull myself out of my nice warm bed. This morning I kind of failed.    I did get up when my alarm went off at six A.M. However I did not get in a day break run, …

Home of the Thirty Dollar Taco

By Amber Woods on Thursday, December 1, 2011

Here I sit all handicapped. Well, a lot more handicapped then normal. In a physical way, not in the mental way. My left foot is f’ed up.    My new Teva’s gave me a horribly bloody blister the other day while running through wet mud. It was okay triple bandaged for a few days. …

Obama hates Zenyatta

By Amber Woods on Wednesday, November 30, 2011

Okay Obama, you’ve really pissed me off this time.     Let me make one thing perfectly clear;    Americans are not ready to eat Quarter horses!     On Nov 18th, while most Americans had turkey on the brain, President Obama had other priorities; making it legal to once again slaughter horses for meat in the United States. …

Hike. Jeep. Repeat. Big Bear's only outdoor adventure guide
Amber Woods
Amber Woods

Hi y’all! I’m Amber, Big Bear Lake’s local Hungry Mountaineer hiking nature guide. I grew up here in the San Bernardino National Forest. I have basically been out exploring hiking trails and enjoying the wilderness as long as I could walk. I have had some amazing adventures out here in the gorgeous San Bernardino Mountains over the years. As a alpine adventure enabler who is passionate about the wilderness, I love to share my knowledge of our vast trail system with vacationers who also love the great outdoors. Looking to book a hiking excursion? Email me at Hungrymountaineer@gmail.com for the best locals-only hikes available in this mountain wilderness. I am passionate about finding my balance in life – healthy living, great food, outdoor fitness, traveling adventures, working hard and my unbridled love for racehorses and naturally, gambling. When I’m not exploring news trails or betting on the ponies you can find me either coming up with healthy new recipes or blogging about the adventures my trail pup and I had in the wilderness this week. I have spent most of my life exploring what these mountains have to offer and locals would call me an expert and a backcountry Snack Sherpa. I know the best hiking and biking trails in these mountains and I have chronicled most of my hikes and adventures on this website. Please get in touch is you have any questions.
