A Day at the Track

By Amber Woods on Friday, October 19, 2012

Last week we took a little day trip to Santa Anita where we enjoyed dollar beers and I embarrassed myself.    Just a typical day.   First we took pictures of all the horse racing celebrities we saw.      Here is the great jockey (Now retired)  Eddie Delahousyee, next to trainer Patrick Gallager and John Henry’s Balls…     …

This might be the cutest post ever

By Amber Woods on Thursday, October 18, 2012

I’m going to come out and just say it.    This might be the cutest post ever.    Why?    Because off this guy…   Zion is trying to kill nature.    Zion is a cat who loves the fall.   Autumn to Zion does not mean apple cider or wearing scarves or even making chili.   Autumn to …

Blinding

By Amber Woods on Monday, October 15, 2012

This is a little different than what I usually write. This is a piece of fiction I wrote for a website called Yeah Write, a websit that has a weekly topic. October is tales of the strange, the supernatural or the unexplained and the photo promt for the week was a picture of a black …

I love these Socks

By Amber Woods on Sunday, October 14, 2012

I love these socks. I have worn them every cold winter’s day for five years ago. My mom bought me three pairs five Christmas’s ago. They are from the Eddie Bauer store and I never buy anything from that supper yuppie outdoor store but these socks were just so warm wool and cozy, I had …

Do not ever, EVER give this girl chili!

By Amber Woods on Friday, October 12, 2012

Today I might have been the slowest person on the mountain but that does not matter.  Today I ran my first half marathon. I suspect this will also be my last half marathon.  Before today I thought to myself, yeah I can run thirteen miles.  ( I was so cocky, so long ago. I mean …

Hike. Jeep. Repeat. Big Bear's only outdoor adventure guide
Amber Woods
Amber Woods

Hi y’all! I’m Amber, Big Bear Lake’s local Hungry Mountaineer hiking nature guide. I grew up here in the San Bernardino National Forest. I have basically been out exploring hiking trails and enjoying the wilderness as long as I could walk. I have had some amazing adventures out here in the gorgeous San Bernardino Mountains over the years. As a alpine adventure enabler who is passionate about the wilderness, I love to share my knowledge of our vast trail system with vacationers who also love the great outdoors. Looking to book a hiking excursion? Email me at Hungrymountaineer@gmail.com for the best locals-only hikes available in this mountain wilderness. I am passionate about finding my balance in life – healthy living, great food, outdoor fitness, traveling adventures, working hard and my unbridled love for racehorses and naturally, gambling. When I’m not exploring news trails or betting on the ponies you can find me either coming up with healthy new recipes or blogging about the adventures my trail pup and I had in the wilderness this week. I have spent most of my life exploring what these mountains have to offer and locals would call me an expert and a backcountry Snack Sherpa. I know the best hiking and biking trails in these mountains and I have chronicled most of my hikes and adventures on this website. Please get in touch is you have any questions.
