I is for instructions

By Amber Woods on Wednesday, April 10, 2013

I held the bright orange square of finger between two fingers and read the followingDo not let your friends or pets touch or lick your new tattoo.   On my right bicep I felt like a million little horses were galloping in circles around my upper arm.   Actually there were just three little horses with …

H is for hungry

By Amber Woods on Tuesday, April 9, 2013

I’m always hungry.   I have always been this way. Growing up my family always inhaled the Sizzler buffet and I grew to love buffets at a early age. When I was about twelve I went to Las Vegas for the first time and had a real Vegas buffet and I was blown away.   I love …

H is for.. Hippies Dancing with Horses or Things Not to Write About

By Amber Woods on Tuesday, April 9, 2013

Some weeks are just boring.   Unless people want to see pictures of my cats or Instagram pictures of my dirty sneakers after a run, I need to find some new topics that are blog-able.    I just found an online link to hippies dancing with horses and I thought maybe I could make fun of …

G is for… God Bless America

By Amber Woods on Monday, April 8, 2013

Looking at this beautiful sight one would think that this small town country home stead and barn were located in a farming area of Colorado or Montana.   Can you believe this is Southern California?    I took this picture at the end of a fourteen mile run.  Maybe I was just high off of endorphins …

F is for… Farting with my Armpits; A How to Guide

By Amber Woods on Saturday, April 6, 2013

I realize I have not written about bodily functions in a while, which is kind of weird since I have the sense of humor of a twelve year old boy and I make these kind of jokes a lot.    Last night at work my coworker was peppering the story I was trying to tell …

Hike. Jeep. Repeat. Big Bear's only outdoor adventure guide
Amber Woods
Amber Woods

Hi y’all! I’m Amber, Big Bear Lake’s local Hungry Mountaineer hiking nature guide. I grew up here in the San Bernardino National Forest. I have basically been out exploring hiking trails and enjoying the wilderness as long as I could walk. I have had some amazing adventures out here in the gorgeous San Bernardino Mountains over the years. As a alpine adventure enabler who is passionate about the wilderness, I love to share my knowledge of our vast trail system with vacationers who also love the great outdoors. Looking to book a hiking excursion? Email me at Hungrymountaineer@gmail.com for the best locals-only hikes available in this mountain wilderness. I am passionate about finding my balance in life – healthy living, great food, outdoor fitness, traveling adventures, working hard and my unbridled love for racehorses and naturally, gambling. When I’m not exploring news trails or betting on the ponies you can find me either coming up with healthy new recipes or blogging about the adventures my trail pup and I had in the wilderness this week. I have spent most of my life exploring what these mountains have to offer and locals would call me an expert and a backcountry Snack Sherpa. I know the best hiking and biking trails in these mountains and I have chronicled most of my hikes and adventures on this website. Please get in touch is you have any questions.
