We Smell Like Rainbows and Unicorns

By Amber Woods on Sunday, March 10, 2013

Today for the second time in my thirty two years I ran 13.1 half marathon style. This time I trained a lot and although I did not feel as ready as I would have liked to be, I felt like I could accomplish my goal time of three hours. The race day did not start …

Snow Monsters

By Amber Woods on Thursday, March 7, 2013

I can tell in my sleep if it’s snowing outside.     I may not have amazing Snow ESP but when it snows people have to chain up their cars and trucks and when they drive by my house with tire chains at four A.M. I can hear them.   Even in a deep sleep I can …

Warm Willies and More

By Amber Woods on Monday, March 4, 2013

I’m so glad he warned me in advance.    I tried to find a plumber to come in and fix my broken pipe last week.    He seemed like a real nice guy. We talked about all the drama unfolding with Chris Dorner in our little mountain time. He fixed my frozen and burst pipe, I …

Venice; Grabbing Balls and Acting like a Local

By Amber Woods on Friday, March 1, 2013

Venice in the early morning light My first morning in Venice I woke up early just after sunrise. I was sharing a room with Dawn and Jess. I had holidayed with Dawn before and we got along really well. Jess and I had just met and she seemed nice too. (I might come to regret these words later …

Craft’s Peak, You Asshole

By Amber Woods on Thursday, February 28, 2013

I keep saying that this year I want to snow shoe to the top of Craft’s Peak. Today I realized that will never happen. There is an easy way to get to Craft’s Peak in the Spring and Summer months. You can drive Snowline Road most of the way in and than I do a …

About Me
Amber Wood
Amber Wood

Hi y’all! I’m Amber, Big Bear’s local Hungry Mountaineer hiking nature guide. I grew up here in the San Bernardino National Forest and I have basically been out exploring hiking trails and enjoying the wilderness as long as I could walk. I have had some amazing adventures out here in the gorgeous San Bernardino Mountains over the years. As a hiking guide who is passionate about the wilderness, I love to share my knowledge of our vast trail system with vacationers who also love the great outdoors. Looking to book a hiking excursion? Email me at Hungrymountaineer@gmail.com for the best locals-only hikes available in this mountain wilderness. I am passionate about finding my balance in life – healthy living, great food, outdoor fitness, traveling adventures, working hard and my unbridled love for racehorses and naturally, gambling. When I’m not exploring news trails or betting on the ponies you can find me either coming up with healthy new recipes or blogging about the adventures my trail pup and I had in the wilderness this week. I have spent most of my life exploring what these mountains have to offer and locals would call me an expert. I know the best hiking and biking trails in these mountains and I have chronicled most of my hikes and adventures in my blog on this website. Please get in touch is you have any questions.
