Just a Few Blessings in this Life

By Amber Woods on Monday, July 29, 2013

I Saw this inspiring quote from a new blog I just began following and it inspired me to take a look at my life and the little thinks that I am grateful for.     Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights with whom there is …

Nutella Carmel Cheesecake with a Brownie Crust

By Amber Woods on Sunday, July 28, 2013

I just had to be a rebel.   It’s a eighty degree evening in the summertime in my small mountain town.   I just came back from a seven mile hike.   My cabin has been shut up all day. It’s hot inside so all the doors and windows are open now.   It is ridiculous hot in …

How to Use a Wag Bag life Outdoors Mt Whitney

Em-bare-ass-ing Myself on Mt Whitney

By Amber Woods on Sunday, July 28, 2013

The best way to prevent altitude sickness when mountaineering over 10,000 feet is to drink lots of water so as not to get dehydrated and to hike slowly, letting your body adjust to the high elevation.   I drank more water in one day on Thursday than I have ever consumed before in one day …

I Heart Running and a recipe for Coffee Almond Ice Cream Cake

By Amber Woods on Thursday, July 25, 2013

Its official.     I think I love to run.     At this point, I can’t go a day without running.    Some times I run twice in one day if I have time.    And you know what?    I’m thinking now it may be in my blood and I just never knew it.    There were definitely warning …

About Me
Amber Wood
Amber Wood

Hi y’all! I’m Amber, Big Bear’s local Hungry Mountaineer hiking nature guide. I grew up here in the San Bernardino National Forest and I have basically been out exploring hiking trails and enjoying the wilderness as long as I could walk. I have had some amazing adventures out here in the gorgeous San Bernardino Mountains over the years. As a hiking guide who is passionate about the wilderness, I love to share my knowledge of our vast trail system with vacationers who also love the great outdoors. Looking to book a hiking excursion? Email me at Hungrymountaineer@gmail.com for the best locals-only hikes available in this mountain wilderness. I am passionate about finding my balance in life – healthy living, great food, outdoor fitness, traveling adventures, working hard and my unbridled love for racehorses and naturally, gambling. When I’m not exploring news trails or betting on the ponies you can find me either coming up with healthy new recipes or blogging about the adventures my trail pup and I had in the wilderness this week. I have spent most of my life exploring what these mountains have to offer and locals would call me an expert. I know the best hiking and biking trails in these mountains and I have chronicled most of my hikes and adventures in my blog on this website. Please get in touch is you have any questions.
