By Amber Wood on Tuesday, August 6, 2013

This week’s theme is the best food for camping.Summer is a great time to spend camping and back packing in the wilderness. Camping and backpacking especially means keeping prep work and clean up to a bare minimum. This week, Here are some of my favorite recipes that are so easy to do over a campfire. …

Cranberry Oat Meal Cookies with Yogurt Covered Raisins

By Amber Wood on Tuesday, August 6, 2013

I should be coming up with a recipe to make my own power bars.   They should be gluten free and high in protein and full of coconut oil and omega threes.   But I just ran six miles and I’m much more tempted to make cookies at this moment.   Unfortunately I happen to be out …

I Want to Live my Like like I’m on Vaction (And a recipe for Three Cheese Stuffed Gluten Free Peppers)

By Amber Wood on Monday, August 5, 2013

When I’m working twelve hour days and not getting any sleep some times I ask myself, what did I do for fun today?     Today I stood on the edge of a stream deep in the wilderness and fished for native trout with Velveeta Cheese.   Native trout are indeed not as fussy about their cheese …

The Tabasco Bandit Rides Again ( And a recipe for Hot Goat Cheese Corn Dip)

By Amber Wood on Saturday, August 3, 2013

Once upon a time I felt like a terrorist. Or a dumb ass. Maybe both.      I had to go to the county courthouse on this muggy smoggy, okay typical for San Bernardino County,  September afternoon. Last time I had the joy of visiting the San Bernardino Courthouse I was probably nine or ten, tagging after my dad, …

Alaska Part 3; Denali National Park

By Amber Wood on Thursday, August 1, 2013

Denali Overlook, on the way to Denali National Park After spending a few days in a cabin outside Talkeetna Alaska, Steven, Jenny, Ryan and I shoved all of our camping gear into a tiny bug encrusted Ford Focus and headed north on the Parks Highway towards Trapper Creek and Denali National Park. We had a …

About Me
Amber Woodyard
Amber Woodyard

Hi y’all! I’m Amber, Big Bear’s local Hungry Mountaineer hiking nature guide. I grew up here in the San Bernardino National Forest and I have basically been out exploring hiking trails and enjoying the wilderness as long as I could walk. I have had some amazing adventures out here in the gorgeous San Bernardino Mountains over the years. As a hiking guide who is passionate about the wilderness, I love to share my knowledge of our vast trail system with vacationers who also love the great outdoors. Looking to book a hiking excursion? Email me at [email protected] for the best locals-only hikes available in this mountain wilderness. I am passionate about finding my balance in life – healthy living, great food, outdoor fitness, traveling adventures, working hard and my unbridled love for racehorses and naturally, gambling. When I’m not exploring news trails or betting on the ponies you can find me either coming up with healthy new recipes or blogging about the adventures my trail pup and I had in the wilderness this week. I have spent most of my life exploring what these mountains have to offer and locals would call me an expert. I know the best hiking and biking trails in these mountains and I have chronicled most of my hikes and adventures in my blog on this website. Please get in touch is you have any questions.
