A Afternoon in Venice, Cicchetti, Wine and Gelato

By Amber Wood on Saturday, October 5, 2013

We had to be at the Stansted airport before dawn for our flight to Venice. It was a cheap Ryanair flight. I think it came out to be about thirty American dollars. We packed up the cars in the brisk cold of England in February and made the drive out to the countryside and the little …

Chicken and chili flautas with feta pepper dipping sauce

By Amber Wood on Thursday, October 3, 2013

I just came back from a week long vacation which ended with three days camping, fishing, and yes drinking way to much beer in the Sierras.     A good time was had with some great friends who I have not hung out with in way to long.     The fishing was not the best …

Grapefruit Ginger Juice

By Amber Wood on Tuesday, October 1, 2013

This was the last Crab Creek hike of the season.    My favorite secluded mountain watering hole has a very short season. Fall starts early at the creek and the second week in August brings cool mountain breezes and the water temperature dips over night.    We made one more trip down to Crab Creek …

Hola! El Ojo! Donde Beano? Also a recipe for Gluten Free Baked Beans

By Amber Wood on Tuesday, October 1, 2013

Maybe I met the man of my dreams in this mornings light? As the sun begun to climb over the deserts hills he smiled at me as he removed the stacks of  bread from his towering eighteen wheeler. In broken Spanish he asked if he could ask me a question. I expected “Banos?” Instead he said, …

White Chocolate Mocha Macarons

By Amber Wood on Monday, September 30, 2013

I know I know another recipe for macarons? Remember when I used to make things with goat cheese?    Are you tired of macarons?   Are you out of eggs?   Are you thinking of buying a few chickens?    Okay this is the last one, I promise. ( At least until I find a goat cheese macaron recipe. It …

About Me
Amber Woodyard
Amber Woodyard

Hi y’all! I’m Amber, Big Bear’s local Hungry Mountaineer hiking nature guide. I grew up here in the San Bernardino National Forest and I have basically been out exploring hiking trails and enjoying the wilderness as long as I could walk. I have had some amazing adventures out here in the gorgeous San Bernardino Mountains over the years. As a hiking guide who is passionate about the wilderness, I love to share my knowledge of our vast trail system with vacationers who also love the great outdoors. Looking to book a hiking excursion? Email me at [email protected] for the best locals-only hikes available in this mountain wilderness. I am passionate about finding my balance in life – healthy living, great food, outdoor fitness, traveling adventures, working hard and my unbridled love for racehorses and naturally, gambling. When I’m not exploring news trails or betting on the ponies you can find me either coming up with healthy new recipes or blogging about the adventures my trail pup and I had in the wilderness this week. I have spent most of my life exploring what these mountains have to offer and locals would call me an expert. I know the best hiking and biking trails in these mountains and I have chronicled most of my hikes and adventures in my blog on this website. Please get in touch is you have any questions.
