Shenanigans south of the Border

O Mexico; Travels South of the Border and a Recipe for Carnitas Enchiladas

By Amber Wood on Saturday, November 16, 2013

When I was a teenager I was not a rebel. I was in Choir and drama. I loved horse racing and since we lived two hours from the closest race track and my parents worked full time I was stuck watching it on T.V. Between these things and school, I had no time to revolt.  Until …

What the Hell is Mutton Bustin? A Day Spent in Brawley

By Amber Wood on Friday, November 15, 2013

I feel like we are in the wild, wild west, yet some how I am still technically in Southern California just a few hours south of Los Angeles. We drove two hours south east of the sprawling suburbia and consumerism that engulfs Southern California. No joke; I have not seen a Target or a Bed …

Dewey Decimal Distractions

By Amber Wood on Thursday, November 14, 2013

It’s day ten week two of not having a working computer.     I think I am going to make it.     I can see the end in sight.    On Saturday I will be buying a new lap top and it will be no more blogging on my Iphone or at the library. …

Coconut Chocolate Chip Cookies

By Amber Wood on Wednesday, November 13, 2013

When I was a kid I loved to bake at a young  age.      This despite the fact that one time I substituted salt for sugar in the cookies and added a quarter cup salt and a teaspoon sugar.      My mom loves to tell that story.      Maybe she shouldn’t have let …

Cranberry Chocolate Chunk French Toast Stuffed with Stilton

By Amber Wood on Tuesday, November 12, 2013

Yesterday I ran up a mountain five thousand feet.      My feet, hips and back are aching today and I deserve some chocolate cheese stuffed French toast, damn it!      The road to the top of San Gorgonio yesterday was paved with snow, ice and desire to make it to the …

About Me
Amber Woodyard
Amber Woodyard

Hi y’all! I’m Amber, Big Bear’s local Hungry Mountaineer hiking nature guide. I grew up here in the San Bernardino National Forest and I have basically been out exploring hiking trails and enjoying the wilderness as long as I could walk. I have had some amazing adventures out here in the gorgeous San Bernardino Mountains over the years. As a hiking guide who is passionate about the wilderness, I love to share my knowledge of our vast trail system with vacationers who also love the great outdoors. Looking to book a hiking excursion? Email me at [email protected] for the best locals-only hikes available in this mountain wilderness. I am passionate about finding my balance in life – healthy living, great food, outdoor fitness, traveling adventures, working hard and my unbridled love for racehorses and naturally, gambling. When I’m not exploring news trails or betting on the ponies you can find me either coming up with healthy new recipes or blogging about the adventures my trail pup and I had in the wilderness this week. I have spent most of my life exploring what these mountains have to offer and locals would call me an expert. I know the best hiking and biking trails in these mountains and I have chronicled most of my hikes and adventures in my blog on this website. Please get in touch is you have any questions.
