Mornings in the jungle of India

By Amber Wood on Thursday, February 16, 2017

Mornings in the jungle mean the roar of a bewildered buffalo waking us up. It was like nothing I have ever heard before. After the night before when my boyfriend was accompanied home from the bar by a pack of pachyderms, the last two nights every time I felt a shutter or heard a noise …

Simple Valentines Day 3 Ingredient Dark Chocolate Mousse

By Amber Wood on Tuesday, February 14, 2017

If I’m going to do a hike that damn near kills me, you better be live I will celebrate afterwards with some Valentines Day chocolate mousse. Valentines Day means chocolate, and for me and the pup, maybe a side of hiking too. I don’t know how many times I’ve spoken the words “Well I survived …

Braving a Blizzard Because Kittens

By Amber Wood on Sunday, February 12, 2017

I better have the most amazing abs ever after this past five days of shoveling so much snow! I have barely stopped shoveling snow for five days now. We have so much snow in our little mountain town that we have barely left the house in close to a week now. (I did leave the neighborhood one …

Morning Dolci on the Streets of Venice Italy

By Amber Wood on Friday, February 10, 2017

It was six a.m. in Venice Italy and I couldn’t sleep. I looked at my two flat mates snoring and cozy in their beds and knew I couldn’t sit here all morning cocooned in my nice warm bed, waiting for these silly hungover girls to wake up. It was time to hit the streets of …

It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas; Bangalore Edition

By Amber Wood on Wednesday, February 8, 2017
curried cauliflower-India-sunset

In Kammanahalli the dirty mud covered streets are lined but that’s just a guide line for the millions of rickshaw drivers and Uber drivers who frantically scurry about in their vehicles. There is not a Christmas tree in sight. This is late December in Bangalore, India. The millions of motorbikes invade the city like ants who …

About Me
Amber Woodyard
Amber Woodyard

Hi y’all! I’m Amber, Big Bear’s local Hungry Mountaineer hiking nature guide. I grew up here in the San Bernardino National Forest and I have basically been out exploring hiking trails and enjoying the wilderness as long as I could walk. I have had some amazing adventures out here in the gorgeous San Bernardino Mountains over the years. As a hiking guide who is passionate about the wilderness, I love to share my knowledge of our vast trail system with vacationers who also love the great outdoors. Looking to book a hiking excursion? Email me at [email protected] for the best locals-only hikes available in this mountain wilderness. I am passionate about finding my balance in life – healthy living, great food, outdoor fitness, traveling adventures, working hard and my unbridled love for racehorses and naturally, gambling. When I’m not exploring news trails or betting on the ponies you can find me either coming up with healthy new recipes or blogging about the adventures my trail pup and I had in the wilderness this week. I have spent most of my life exploring what these mountains have to offer and locals would call me an expert. I know the best hiking and biking trails in these mountains and I have chronicled most of my hikes and adventures in my blog on this website. Please get in touch is you have any questions.
