Coconut Rice with Saffron and Star Anise

By Amber Wood on Monday, April 3, 2017

India is cows wandering in traffic. India is craving coconut rice. Once you have had authentic refreshing coconut rice you crave it with every spicy Indian meal. India is a rainbow of colors so bright it hurts your eyes first thing on a grey smoggy morning. It’s hard to tell if it’s the millions of …

Naan Stop Thoroughbred racing fun

By Amber Wood on Saturday, April 1, 2017

“Hey Janette, stand next to baconmoblie!” Which obviously is the best food truck of all. “um, no” “Please! I’ll take your picture!” “No” “But its bacon! Bacon, bacon bacon!” “Amber, I’m an Adventist!” “Wops, I forgot” The scene is the infield of Santa Anita Race Track, Arcadia California. Janette and I are on a mission …

By Amber Wood on Friday, March 31, 2017

Dear Amazon Prime, When I order a bag of cat farts I expect it to be delivered in the guaranteed two days or less. I have many different options when purchasing a bag of cat farts and Amazon Prime used to be my go-to for buying birthday gifts such as cat snuggies and bags of …

My Favorite Secret Place in India

By Amber Wood on Tuesday, March 28, 2017

I woke up in the morning to the sound of… I honesty am not sure. As I flung aside the mosquito netting over our bed and set two feet on the floor I wondered what kind of animal hidden away back in the jungle here in my favorite secret place in India could possibly make …

Adventures in Sushi; Sushi Making for Dummies

By Amber Wood on Sunday, March 26, 2017

This year for Christmas I decide to buy my boyfriend a sushi bazooka. If I had one complaint it would be, I really wish the directions had come in English.  As in I am making Japanese sushi, why are all the instructions in French? I think I may have just made him foie gras. I …

About Me
Amber Woodyard
Amber Woodyard

Hi y’all! I’m Amber, Big Bear’s local Hungry Mountaineer hiking nature guide. I grew up here in the San Bernardino National Forest and I have basically been out exploring hiking trails and enjoying the wilderness as long as I could walk. I have had some amazing adventures out here in the gorgeous San Bernardino Mountains over the years. As a hiking guide who is passionate about the wilderness, I love to share my knowledge of our vast trail system with vacationers who also love the great outdoors. Looking to book a hiking excursion? Email me at [email protected] for the best locals-only hikes available in this mountain wilderness. I am passionate about finding my balance in life – healthy living, great food, outdoor fitness, traveling adventures, working hard and my unbridled love for racehorses and naturally, gambling. When I’m not exploring news trails or betting on the ponies you can find me either coming up with healthy new recipes or blogging about the adventures my trail pup and I had in the wilderness this week. I have spent most of my life exploring what these mountains have to offer and locals would call me an expert. I know the best hiking and biking trails in these mountains and I have chronicled most of my hikes and adventures in my blog on this website. Please get in touch is you have any questions.
