Indo-Chinese Please-Don’t-Cancel-Me Gobi Manchurian

By Amber Woods on Friday, November 15, 2024

I have to spend my days out under the changing fall leaves of the national forest because the world we live in today brings me a lot of anguish. As a conservative Republican woman, I am always wrong. It doesn’t matter what I believe in. I’m wrong. Plain and simple. Oh, so you think the …

Keto Pumpkin Spice Donuts

By Amber Woods on Sunday, November 10, 2024

Ugg Boots, your favorite fall sweater, a ridiculously priced cardamom and cinnamon flavored latte…All these things sing out the joyous songs of autumn to me. I guess I am really just obsessed with autumn because it means summertime is over and I can finally stop sweating. It’s a great time of year to start baking …

Keto Thai Air Fryer Chicken with Pickled Ginger

By Amber Woods on Monday, November 4, 2024

I don’t love the dilemma sitting in the envelope on my kitchen counter. Opening the mail and gazing down at my voter’s ballet brought a little bit of anxiety this November morning. What would Jesus do? I think he would go for a hike. The fall colors are changing outside the windows of our cabin …

How to be a Prepper without being Labeled that Kooky Neighbor

By Amber Woods on Thursday, October 31, 2024

Is it possible to live your life as a conservative without being labeled as a Patriot?  Just because I think Kamala Harris is an embarrassment to women doesn’t mean I support Orange Julius Caesar. But I as a conservative woman I do enjoy messing with liberal hippie strangers on The Facebook (I always just assume …

Seafood Enchiladas with a Tomatillo Enchilada Sauce

By Amber Woods on Saturday, October 26, 2024

Never would I have ever have guessed that the autumn of 2024 would see most of our mountain home on fire. I’ve lived here in the mountains of southern California my whole life. Every year we see our mountain home being trashed by visitors more and more. Dirty diapers and broken sleds litter our mountain …

About Me
Amber Wood
Amber Wood

Hi y’all! I’m Amber, Big Bear’s local Hungry Mountaineer hiking nature guide. I grew up here in the San Bernardino National Forest and I have basically been out exploring hiking trails and enjoying the wilderness as long as I could walk. I have had some amazing adventures out here in the gorgeous San Bernardino Mountains over the years. As a hiking guide who is passionate about the wilderness, I love to share my knowledge of our vast trail system with vacationers who also love the great outdoors. Looking to book a hiking excursion? Email me at Hungrymountaineer@gmail.com for the best locals-only hikes available in this mountain wilderness. I am passionate about finding my balance in life – healthy living, great food, outdoor fitness, traveling adventures, working hard and my unbridled love for racehorses and naturally, gambling. When I’m not exploring news trails or betting on the ponies you can find me either coming up with healthy new recipes or blogging about the adventures my trail pup and I had in the wilderness this week. I have spent most of my life exploring what these mountains have to offer and locals would call me an expert. I know the best hiking and biking trails in these mountains and I have chronicled most of my hikes and adventures in my blog on this website. Please get in touch is you have any questions.
