Pacific Crest Trail

It’s a rainy snowy late winters day in Big Bear, California and I don’t have Coronavirus, yet. My solution to not get Coronavirus is to stay out in nature away from the germs, the sneezes and the runny noses of the masses. This is a lot easier when I just got Coronavirused out of a …

How I Survived the Coronavirus. I mean a Night with my Family.

By Amber Woods on Thursday, March 12, 2020

Most people right now are very paranoid about the Coronavirus. Some individuals have just now learned, at thirties years old that yes, you have to wash your hands. Even more folks are flocking to Costco to drain the shelves of toilet paper and cases of water. Who doesn’t have a water filter on their sink? …

BLT Salad with a Creamy Meyer Lemon Avocado Dressing

By Amber Woods on Monday, March 9, 2020

Every perfect spring morning should start with the smell of bacon filling your kitchen. Some people think that fresh morning rain or the smell of wildflowers means spring is finally here. No. Those people are wrong. Really spring has dawned bright when you can sit out on your patio furniture in the morning sunshine, not …

About Me
Amber Wood
Amber Wood

Hi y’all! I’m Amber, Big Bear’s local Hungry Mountaineer hiking nature guide. I grew up here in the San Bernardino National Forest and I have basically been out exploring hiking trails and enjoying the wilderness as long as I could walk. I have had some amazing adventures out here in the gorgeous San Bernardino Mountains over the years. As a hiking guide who is passionate about the wilderness, I love to share my knowledge of our vast trail system with vacationers who also love the great outdoors. Looking to book a hiking excursion? Email me at Hungrymountaineer@gmail.com for the best locals-only hikes available in this mountain wilderness. I am passionate about finding my balance in life – healthy living, great food, outdoor fitness, traveling adventures, working hard and my unbridled love for racehorses and naturally, gambling. When I’m not exploring news trails or betting on the ponies you can find me either coming up with healthy new recipes or blogging about the adventures my trail pup and I had in the wilderness this week. I have spent most of my life exploring what these mountains have to offer and locals would call me an expert. I know the best hiking and biking trails in these mountains and I have chronicled most of my hikes and adventures in my blog on this website. Please get in touch is you have any questions.
