Keto Lasagna Stuffed Bell Peppers with Goat Cheese

By Amber Woods on Wednesday, January 12, 2022

Living a keto lifestyle means I stuff a lot of things into low-calorie bell peppers. Want to have enchiladas? Stuff all those enchilada toppings (Minus the tortillas) in a high in Vitamin A and C yellow bell pepper! Got a hankering for chili relleno casserole? Dice up some rotisserie chicken, canned Ortega chilis, and all …

The Full Body Scrub The Cure For Pandemic Fat Ass Syndrome

By Amber Woods on Friday, January 7, 2022

To all my friends over forty, Remember back in the day before that damned COVID-19 LBS when we were skinny and our asses were not covered in dimply cellulite? Remember owning a two-piece bikini that was not skirted so it did not cover the fattest part of our asses? Remember when I didn’t have to …

Pepperoni Pizza Garlic BreadKnots Pull Apart-Bread

By Amber Woods on Monday, January 3, 2022

I come from a small mountain town tucked back in the pines where we are famous for two regional delicacies; Squirrel stew and our garlic breadknots. Okay, it might just be a small-town joke about the squirrel stew. But I am not joking about the garlic breadknots. Yes, this pungent garlicky appetizer is our regional …

A Baja California Holiday Adventure

By Amber Woods on Tuesday, December 28, 2021

I have never been the kind of Californian who was scared to visit Mexico. On my first trip to Baja California, I was only seventeen years old. I’m pretty sure I told my parents we would be staying with my friend’s family at their Baja beach house.  Ha. Well, that was a half-truth. Funny story …

I Can’t Believe it’s not full of Gluten Blueberry Breakfast Coffee Cake

By Amber Woods on Thursday, December 23, 2021

I felt so blessed that even though it was just forty-eight hours after I had my second Covid Vaccine I was out on one of my favorite trails hiking again under the pines even if I still did not feel one hundred percent. I was identifying as vaccinated at that point, my feet were back …

About Me
Amber Wood
Amber Wood

Hi y’all! I’m Amber, Big Bear’s local Hungry Mountaineer hiking nature guide. I grew up here in the San Bernardino National Forest and I have basically been out exploring hiking trails and enjoying the wilderness as long as I could walk. I have had some amazing adventures out here in the gorgeous San Bernardino Mountains over the years. As a hiking guide who is passionate about the wilderness, I love to share my knowledge of our vast trail system with vacationers who also love the great outdoors. Looking to book a hiking excursion? Email me at Hungrymountaineer@gmail.com for the best locals-only hikes available in this mountain wilderness. I am passionate about finding my balance in life – healthy living, great food, outdoor fitness, traveling adventures, working hard and my unbridled love for racehorses and naturally, gambling. When I’m not exploring news trails or betting on the ponies you can find me either coming up with healthy new recipes or blogging about the adventures my trail pup and I had in the wilderness this week. I have spent most of my life exploring what these mountains have to offer and locals would call me an expert. I know the best hiking and biking trails in these mountains and I have chronicled most of my hikes and adventures in my blog on this website. Please get in touch is you have any questions.
