Fennel and Tamarind Paste Roasted Pork Loin Please

By Amber Woods on Tuesday, November 22, 2022

If it’s late October it’s finally cool enough in our mountain town to turn our oven on again. As much as I don’t want to see long summertime days end, the shorter days of fall mean I get to shove a Fennel and Tamarind Paste Roasted Pork Loin at my face. On a humid autumn …

Autumn Spice Sugar Cookies

By Amber Woods on Friday, November 18, 2022

Get a dog they said. Get another dog they said. Take her on a hike they said. Clean up fifteen poops a day, they said (By they I mean my boyfriend) Did we really only adopt one dog? How can one dog poop so much? All the stress of adopting a new puppy has me …

Green Bean Keto Beef Stroganoff Casserole

By Amber Woods on Sunday, November 13, 2022

I simply adore the cooler autumn months. For one thing, it means I can turn on my oven again. And what is the first keto casserole I’ll be baking this September twenty-second? Why it’s this awesome gruyere studded Keto beef Stroganoff of course! Now the first chilly days of the autumn may mean that those …

Coconut Pumpkin Streusel Muffins

By Amber Woods on Wednesday, November 9, 2022

Two high Sierra mountain passes in two days might have been a bit much for me looking back. Especially when the second one required three thousand feet in altitude gain in ten miles. But still, as this sunny and oh so hot July morning dawned in Bishop, the pup and I were sweating our way …

Big Bear Lake Limiting STR’s, Vote Yes on O!

By Amber Woods on Monday, November 7, 2022

Today is the day. Did you get out and vote? Here in our mountain town of Big Bear Lake, I can’t recall a time when our residents were more divided on social issues. Part of that is because of Measure O in Big Bear Lake. Measure O hopes to limit the number of vacation rentals …

About Me
Amber Wood
Amber Wood

Hi y’all! I’m Amber, Big Bear’s local Hungry Mountaineer hiking nature guide. I grew up here in the San Bernardino National Forest and I have basically been out exploring hiking trails and enjoying the wilderness as long as I could walk. I have had some amazing adventures out here in the gorgeous San Bernardino Mountains over the years. As a hiking guide who is passionate about the wilderness, I love to share my knowledge of our vast trail system with vacationers who also love the great outdoors. Looking to book a hiking excursion? Email me at Hungrymountaineer@gmail.com for the best locals-only hikes available in this mountain wilderness. I am passionate about finding my balance in life – healthy living, great food, outdoor fitness, traveling adventures, working hard and my unbridled love for racehorses and naturally, gambling. When I’m not exploring news trails or betting on the ponies you can find me either coming up with healthy new recipes or blogging about the adventures my trail pup and I had in the wilderness this week. I have spent most of my life exploring what these mountains have to offer and locals would call me an expert. I know the best hiking and biking trails in these mountains and I have chronicled most of my hikes and adventures in my blog on this website. Please get in touch is you have any questions.
